By: Cameron Sallaj After dropping their opening game at the Winnipeg Open, Rachel Homan and Tyler Tardi were able to even their record at the Fort Rouge Curling Club with a victory Friday morning. In their game, they faced Saskatoon's Samantha Yachiw and Jordan Raymond. The pair had a strong start to the game, cracking a four in the opening end. They were then able to take steals in the second and third ends for a comfortable 6-0 lead. After stealing two more points in the fourth end, Team Yachiw/Raymond decided to shake, conceding the match 8-0 and giving Homan/Tardi their first win of the event. The team from the combined locales of Ottawa, ON and Langley, BC are now 1-1 in Pool D. In their first game, they lost 9-4 to Germany's Pia-Lisa Scholl and Klaudius Harsch but were able to bounce back Friday morning to even their record. Homan/Tardi have two more round robin games left. After an afternoon bye, they will face Shannon Birchard and John Morris (2-0; Winnipeg/Canmore) Friday at 9:00 PM Eastern Time with their final game Saturday at 12:00 PM ET against Laura Walker and Kirk Muyres (0-1; Edmonton/Regina). Other Draw 4 scores saw Albrecht/Wozniak (1-0; Zurich, SUI) down Callum/Michaeleski (0-2; Winnipeg, MB) 9-2 while Dodds/Mouat (2-0; Stirling, SCO) won 5-2 over Sauder/Sluchinski (0-2; Edmonton, AB). Birchard/Morris were also winners 6-3 over Walker/Muyres while Thevenot/Kalthoff (1-0; Saskatoon, SK) won 6-5 in an extra end over Matsumura/Tanida (1-1; Nagano/Hokkaido). The Winnipeg Open Mixed Doubles Super Series event sees twenty-five teams split into five pools of five. Once the round robin stage is complete, the top ten teams will move on to the playoff round with the top six automatically advancing to the quarterfinals.
