Barker, with her team of Christie Gamble at third, Jenna Enge at second and Danielle Sicinski at lead came into the RBC Dominion Securities Western Showdown as the reigning Saskatchewan Scotties champions. Their play this weekend leaves them as the last-standing team from the host province. Barker won 8-3 over Korea's Eunjung Kim in Saturday evening's C-Qualifiers, posting a 4-2 record and fourth straight win. Barker lost their opening two games to fall into the C-event and have not lost since.
Tirinzoni qualified through the B-Event Qualifier, winning 6-4 over Japan's Sayaka Yoshimura to book their spot into the playoff round. Tirinzoni, sitting wiht a 4-1 record thus far, comes into this weekend on a winning streak, having won the Boost National Grand Slam last weekend, and prior to that, the Stu Sells Toronto Tankard. In other quarterfinals this morning, Clancy Grandy of Vancouver plays Beth Peterson with Robyn Silvernage skipping the Winnipeg-based team. Sayaka Yoshimura of Sapporo, Japan plays Abby Ackland of Winnipeg and Eun ji Gim of Uijeongbu, South Korea plays Stefania Constantini of Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. |
