BC's Brown and MacMillan Top Seeds into Playoffs

Corryn Brown of Kamloops (photo) and Kayla MacMillan of Vancouver finished 2-1 into SGI Canada Best of the West semifinals.

MacMillan, runner-up in the BC Scotties Provincials last January, losing the final to Mary-Anne Arsenault opened with a 5-4 win over Marla Sherrer of Lacombe and then won 5-3 over Mackenzie Zacharias. The two wins clinched first place in the pool, with MacMillan dropping their final game to Kourtney Fesser of Regina, 12-4.

MacMillan will face Beth Peterson of Winnipeg in the semifinals, to be broadcast on the CurlingZone Youtube channel at 8:30 pm Sask Time, currently aligning with Mountain Time.

Peterson won 8-7 over Kayla Skrlik of Calgary to also finish at 2-1, second in the pool due to head-to-head record.

Brown will face off against Mackenzie Zacharias of Altona. Brown also entered the final round-robin draw having clinched the pool, dropping their final game to Regina's Lorraine Schneider.

Zacharias had a tougher path to the playoffs, getting out of a 5-1 lead over Marla Sherrer, but the Alberta foursome fought back scoring three in the seventh end, then stealing a single point in the eighth end to force an extra end.

A mistake for Zacharias on her first skip stone, left the door open for Sherrer who made a great hit and roll to sit two, in the four-foot. Zacharias, however was up to the task, making the tricky double-takeout just getting by the centre guard, for the win.
