Fleury Advances to BOOST National Semis

Manitoba's Team Tracy Fleury (Photo: Anil Mungal, Grand Slam of Curling) are through to the semifinals at the 2021 BOOST National, after defeating Laura Walker's Alberta rink 7-5 in the quarterfinals.

Team Fleury, with third Selena Njegovan, second Liz Fyfe, and lead Kristin MacCuish, are riding a wave of momentum this weekend in Chestermere, after going 3-0 in the A-Side of the Triple Knockout.

Walker's team controlled most of the first half of the draw. After holding Fleury to a single in the first end, Walker responded with a double in the second, followed by a steal of two in the third. After Fleury scored two in the fourth end, Walker lead 4-3 at the break.

In the fifth fleury would steal a single, tying things up at 4-a-piece. After holding Walker to one in the sixth end, Fleury picked up a much-needed double in the seventh, taking a 6-5 lead going into the final end.

In the eighth, Walker's final shot rolled too far, handing Fleury a steal of one and the game.

For Team Fleury, Saturday afternoon's win marks the latest triumph in what is quickly becoming a very successful season. In four events played so far, the team has won the championship in all but one of them, including last month's GSOC Masters.

Up next, Team Fleury will face off against fellow Canadian rink Team Kelsey Rocque (AB). Team Rocque earned their spot in the semifinals after defeating Isabella Wrana's Swedish rink 7-5.

The East St. Paul, Manitoba-based rink are looking to be in top form heading into the 2021 Olympic Curling Trials, which are now just a few weeks away. A win on Saturday evening would put the team in a great spot to earn their second-consecutive Grand Slam event of the season.

The other women's semifinal will see Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni take on Anna Hasselborg's Swedish rink. Team Hasselborg are the defending BOOST National champions and will be looking to make the final and defend their title.

The 2021 BOOST National semifinals are set for Saturday night at 10:00 PM ET, with spots up for grabs in Sunday's championship final.
