 Team Niklas Edin (Picture: Anil Mungal) defeated Ontario's Glenn Howard 6-5 on Wednesday morning at the 2021 BOOST National in Chestermere, Alberta. By: Dylan Chenier The draw started with a single from Howard in the first end, With Edin answering with a double in the second. Howard returned the favour in the third end, putting two more points on the board. It was another double for Edin in the fourth, putting his rink up 4-3 heading into the break. In the fifth end, Edin was able to build on his lead by stealing one, but Howard evened things up in the sixth with a double. A blank end by Edin in the seventh set things up for a close finish in the eighth, with the Swedish squad taking a single and the victory. For Team Edin, with third Oskar Eriksson, second Rasmus Wrana, and lead Christofer Sundgren, the won puts them at 2-0, and into an A-Side final. Edin now awaits the winner of Wednesday afternoon's A-Side Semi between Brad Jacobs (NO) and Peter De Cruz (SUI). The A-Side final is set for Thursday at 4:00 PM MT, with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals. The team from Karlstad, Sweden is looking to improve on the performance at last month's GSOC Masters, where the rink was eliminated after a quarterfinals loss to Brendan Bottcher. For Team Howard, the rink now drops to the B-Side of the bracket with a record of 1-1, they will next face off against the losers of the Jacobs vs De Cruz draw. Team Howard can afford just one more loss if they hope to advance to this weekend's playoffs. Elsewhere during Draw 5 at the BOOST National, Alberta's Brendan Bottcher got by Ross Paterson (SCO) 5-4, Isabella Wrana (SWE) defeated Laura Walker (AB) 7-3, and Scotland's Ross Whyte beat Ontario's John Epping 7-5. |
