Jamie Sinclair wins OCT Fall Classic in Oakville

Sinclair (Chaska, MN) defeated PEI's Suzanne Birt 8-6 in Sunday's Final.

It came down to the final end in a tight seesaw battle, though it was Sinclair with Monica Walker at third, Cora Farrell at second and Elizabeth Cousins at lead who scored two in the eighth end to take the win.

Sinclair opened with a single in the first end, drawing against two Birt counters, then stole two more in the second end when Birt came light on a draw.

Birt righted things with a hit for two in the third end, then got their own steal of two in the fourth end.

After blanking the fifth end, Sinclair came back with three in the sixth end to take back the lead, and after holding Birt to two in the seventh end, held the hammer coming home in the important eighth end.

For Sinclair, the win is an important start to the first real season for the squad, formed last offseason.

The two previous seasons (2018/19 and 2019/20), with Cory Christensen replacing Alex Carlson in the second season, had not gone as well as expected, and changes were made, with Sinclair out on her own at the end of that second season.

Sinclair re-united with Walker now at third, and a young front end in Farrell and Cousins brings some new energy to the lineup. Walker was a part of

The foursome worked hard last season, putting in lots of practice to gel as a group, finishing second at the USA Curling National Championship in May in Wausau, WI, where Christensen took home her first National title.

For Sinclair, the final's loss was their only loss of the week, and while they were disappointed, it laid the groundwork for this season and the real prize, a shot at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.

With Walker at lead, Sinclair were runners-up in the 2018 Olympic Trials to Nina Roth, the final game coming down to the last end. With their finals appearance, they booked their place in the 2022 Olympic Team Trials for Curling on November 12-21 at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Nebraska.

For Team Sinclair, the COVID-19 has brought the team closer as they've rented a house together and even created their own Youtube series documenting their adventures.
