By Connor Simms, Matt Dunstone, with Colton Lott at third, E.J. Harnden, and Ryan Harnden on the front end, is returning to the Grand Slam semifinal action for the second time this season. Being a perfect 10-0 so far in 2025, Dunstone will look to make his first slam final for the first time since 2022. His best finish at the slam since then was at the Hearing Life Tour Challenge, where he lost the semifinal to Newfoundland's Brad Gushue. They took on Minnesota's Korey Dropkin in the quarterfinals Saturday morning, starting with the hammer due to their perfect round-robin record. In the first end, Dunstone was forced to draw four-foot for his single. Wrecking on the guard on Dropkin's blank attempt resulted in a steal of one for Dunstone. Dropkin bounced back, drawing to the four foot for his deuce. In the fourth end, Dunstone ran back their stone for two points and a 4-2 lead. Dropkin was forced to a hit and stick for his single after a nice split by Dunstone. Dunstone grabbed their deuce in the sixth end, drawing to the paint. In the seventh end, Dropkin hit and stuck for his two points. On his last, Dunstone made a nose double for the 7-5 victory. Dunstone finished 4-0 in the 16-team qualifying round. They defeated Italy's Joel Retornaz 6-5 in their opening game. They then won 5-3 against Switzerland's Yannick Schwaller and 7-1 against Saskatowan's Rylan Kleiter. In their final qualifying round match, they won 7-4 against Germany's Marc Muskatewitz. In the semifinals, they are set to play Scotland's Ross Whyte on Saturday at 7:00 pm Eastern Time (ET), who defeated Sweden's Niklas Edin 5-2. Dunstone has played Whyte two times this season: Losing to them at the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic and beating them last weekend at the Astec Safety Challenge. In the osemifinalfinal, Alberta's Brad Jacobs will face Scotland's Bruce Mouat in a Kioti National Slam final rematch.
