![]() Montreal's Laurie St-Georges won their opening game Wednesday at the Quebec Women's Championship in Alma. St-Georges is a two-time reigning Quebec women's champion, having represented the province for the last four Scotties Tournament of Hearts competition. St-Georges won 8-4 over Noemie Verreault in last year's final in Drummondville. In 2023, St-Georges won her first provincial women's title with a 4-3 win over Lauren Horton. In 2021 and 2022, St-Georges, with current second Emily Riley, were named Team Quebec when provincial playdowns were not played due to COVID. Jamie Sinclair joined the team ahead of the 2024 Scotties, with Lisa Weagle added this past summer after former lead Emily Middaugh moved away from the Ottawa region. Weagle, Riley, Sinclar and St-Georges opened their defence with a 10-2 win over Kelsey Boyd of Montreal. St-Georges jumped out to an early lead with four in the first end, then popped a second 4-ender to lead 8-1 after three ends. St-Georges added two more points in the fifth end to lock down the win. Six teams are competing in the women's division for the provincial championship, no longer known as the Quebec Scotties, after Kruger Products dropped their sponsorship. Kruger Products continues to sponsor the Scotties Tournament of Hearts national championship, with this year's 44th edition being played in Thunder Bay next month. The world's #37-ranked St. Georges faces Julianne Fortin of Quebec City on Thursday at 9 am Eastern time, following up with a second match at 4:30 pm against Anne Sophie Gionest of Riverbend. St. Georges finishes round-robin play on Friday with two more games, first against Dominique Jean of Montreal at 12:45 pm, then against 2018 champion Emilia Gagne of Quebec City at 8:15 pm. The top team after the round-robin receives a bye to Sunday's Final, at Nooon, with the second and third-ranked teams playing Saturday at 7:30 pm in a semifinal game.
