Dunstone, with Colton Lott at third and brothers E.J and Ryan Harnden won 7-6 over Sweden's Niklas Edin in Saturday morning's semifinals at the Lloydminster Curling Centre to advance to the final. Dunstone opened scoring with two points in the first end, with Edin scoring two in the second end to match. Dunstone added two more in the third end, with Edin jumping into their only lead of the game with three points in the fourth end. Dunstone scored a single point in the sixth end to tie the game, then stone a point in the seventh end to take a lead into the final end. After forcing Edin to a single in the eighth end, Dunstone seal the victory with a point in the extra end. McEwen, with Colton Flasch at third and brothers Kevin and Daniel Marsh on the front end, won 6-4 over Scotland's Bruce Mouat, capitalizing on a steal of three in the sixth end to break open the game. McEwen defeated Switzerland's Yannick Schwaller 3-2 in Friday evening's quarterfinals, while Dunstone won 6-5 over Scotland's Ross Whyte. In the other quarterfinals matches, Mouat defeated Winnipeg's Reid Carruthers 5-3 and Edin scored three in the eighth end to win 6-5 over Brad Gushue of St. John's. McEwen came through the A-event bracket, reaching the A-qualifier game with a 10-1 win over Logan Ede of Saskatoon and a 7-4 win over Brent Pierce of New Westminster, BC. McEwen dropped a 6-1 decision to Scotland's Bruce Mouat to set up the meeting with Wouter Goesgens of the Netherlands, where the Saskatoon-based squad prevailed 11-9 in an extra end. Dunstone made easy work through the preliminary round at the Astec Safety Challenge. Dunstone opened action on Wednesday against Johnson Tao and the University of Alberta Golden Bears, winning 6-3 in a tightly contested match that saw Dunstone score two in the eighth end to seal the win. From there, life got easy for Dunstone, taking an 8-0 decision over Italy's Joel Retornaz, and finishing out the A-event conquest with an 8-1 decision over Switzerland's Yannick Schwaller.
