Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB) won 6-3 over Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) in the Final of the Astec Safety Challenge, held January 11 - 14, 2024 at the Lloydminster Curling Club in Lloydminster, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Koe won 6-4 over Bruce Mouat (STIRLING, SCO) in the semifinals of the 2024 Astec Safety Challenge in Lloydminster, Alberta, Canada; and won 6-5 over Yannick Schwaller (Geneve, SUI) in the quarterfinals. of the 2024 Astec Safety Challenge in Lloydminster, Alberta, Canada;
Koe finished 4-1 in the 21-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Koe defeated Ryan Parent (Calgary, AB) 6-5, then went on to lose 7-5 against Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE). Koe responded with a 7-2 win over Mike McEwen (Saskatoon, SK). Koe won 4-3 against Ryan Wiebe (Winnipeg, MB), then won 4-2 against Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Astec Safety Challenge Championship title, Koe earned 52.500 world rankings points along with the $26,000CDN first prize cheque. Koe move up 1 spots after posting a net gain of 48.75 points improving upon their best 7 results so far this season, ranking 8th overall with 269.562 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Koe ranks 8th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 193.000 points earned so far this season.
