Takuma Makanae (Hokkaido, JPN) needed tiebreakers to advance to the playoffs, Makanae finished 2-2 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Makanae defeated Japan's Toa Nakahara 9-3, then went on to lose 6-3 against Japan's Juon Ishimura. Makanae responded with a 4-3 win over Kantaro Kawano (Sapporo, JPN). Makanae went on to lose 7-6 against Tsubasa Nakagawa (Hokkaido, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.

Makanae earned 0.750 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 40 of the event schedule, Makanae did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Makanae ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
