Takumi Maeda (Kitami, JPN) finished 4-4 in the 9 team Japan Curling Championships qualifying round, held May 21 - 29, 2022 in , . In their opening game, Maeda lost 7-2 to Hayato Sato (Sapporo, JPN), droppimg another game, 7-2 to Yasumasa Tanida (Kitami, JPN) where Maeda responded with a 10-3 win over Junpei Kanda (Tokyo, JPN). Maeda won 9-8 against Juon Ishimura (Japan), then won 10-1 against Hiroki Yoshioka (Okayama, JPN). Maeda went on to lose 8-7 against Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, JPN). Maeda responded with a 6-2 win over Minato Hayamizu (Nagano, JPN). Maeda went on to lose 6-4 against Riku Yanagisawa (karuizawa, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.

Maeda earned 3.859 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 27 spots the World Ranking Standings into 170th place overall with 12.859 total points. Maeda ranks 170th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 12.859 points earned so far this season.
