James Pougher (Deeside, WAL) finished 4-3 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Pougher lost 9-4 to Harri Lill (Tallinn, EST), then responded with a 7-6 win over Pavol Pitonak (Bratislava, SVK). Pougher won 7-5 against Otto Kalocsay (Budapest, HUN). Pougher went on to lose 10-3 against Lukas Klima (Prague, CZE). Pougher responded with a 8-7 win over Reto Seiler (Sofia, BUL). Pougher won 8-6 against Jermu Pollanen (Hyvinkaa, FIN). Pougher went on to lose 7-6 against Spain's Sergio Vez in their final qualifying round match.

Pougher earned 5.344 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 137 spots the World Ranking Standings into 279th place overall with 7.006 total points. Pougher ranks 235th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 5.344 points earned so far this season.
