In their opening game, Birr defeated Stephen Imes (Columbus, OH) 4-3, then won 6-3 against Jason Smith (Blaine , MN) and 10-5 against Darryl Sobering (Denver, CO). Birr went on to lose 9-3 against Dominik Maerki (Chaska, MN). Birr responded with a 6-3 win over Jed Brundidge (St. Paul, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
