Sturmay finished 3-0 in the 25-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sturmay defeated Steven Howard (Regina, SK) 5-3, then won 8-4 against William Lyburn (Winnipeg, MB) to advance to the A-Qualifier where they 6-4 against Gunnlaugson to advance to the playoff round. in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Medicine Hat Charity Classic Championship title, Sturmay earned 46.481 world rankings points along with the $10,000CDN first prize cheque. Sturmay move up 2 spots after posting a net gain of 31.036 points improving upon their best 4 results so far this season, ranking 22nd overall with 199.337 total points on the World Ranking Standings.
