Kirk Muyres (Saskatoon, SK) finished 5-6 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Muyres lost 7-6 to Mike McEwen (West St. Paul, MB), then responded with a 6-5 win over Jon Solberg (Whitehorse, YK). Muyres won 9-2 against John Likely (Charlottetown, PEI), then won 8-6 against Martin Crete (Levis, QC). Muyres went on to lose 7-5 against Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, ON). Muyres responded with a 9-5 win over Andrew Symonds (St. John's, NL). Muyres went on to lose 8-2 against Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB). Muyres lost 7-4 to Scott McDonald (Kingston, ON). Muyres lost 6-4 to Brad Gushue (St. John's, CAN). Muyres lost 9-3 to Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB) where Muyres responded with a 6-5 win over Jim Cotter (Vernon, BC) in their final qualifying round match.

Muyres earned 18.757 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, remaining in 18th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 10.978 after improving upon their best so far this season. Muyres ranks 18th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 195.150 points earned so far this season.
