Kurt Balderston (Grande Prairie, AB) won 8-7 over Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO) in the Final of the Original 16 WCT Bonspiel, held November 10 - 12, 2017 in Calgary, Alberta. To advance to the championship game, Balderston won 5-4 over Stuart Thompson (Dartmouth, NS) in the semifinals of the 2017 Original 16 WCT Bonspiel in Calgary, Alberta; and won 8-2 over Karsten Sturmay (Edmonton, AB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2017 Original 16 WCT Bonspiel in Calgary, Alberta;

Balderston finished 3-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Balderston defeated Stefan Staehli (Bern, SUI) 8-5, then won 9-5 against Carl deConinck Smith (Rosetown, SK) and 6-2 against Daylan Vavrek (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Original 16 WCT Bonspiel Championship title, Balderston earned 31.804 world rankings points along with the $6,000CDN first prize cheque. For week 14 of the event schedule, Balderston did not improve upon their best events, remaining at 651st place on the World Ranking Standings with 0 total points.
