Gushue finished 3-1 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gushue defeated Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) 8-5, then went on to lose 9-6 against Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB). Gushue responded with a 7-3 win over Jean-Michel Menard (Quebec, QC). Gushue won 4-2 against Ulsrud in their final qualifying round match.
