Rui Liu (Harbin, CHN) finished 4-3 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Liu defeated Alexander Baumann (Hamburg, GER) 7-4, then won 10-5 against Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA). Liu went on to lose 5-3 against Rasmus Stjerne (Hvidovre, DEN). Liu responded with a 7-5 win over Jaap van Dorp (Zoetermeer, NED). Liu went on to lose 10-7 against Jiri Snitil (Prague, CZE). Liu responded with a 10-6 win over Aku Kauste (Hyvinkaa, FIN). Liu went on to lose 8-5 against Alexey Timofeev (Moscow, RUS) in their final qualifying round match.

Liu earned 6.843 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 18 of the event schedule, Liu did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Liu ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
