Kim finished 5-0 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kim defeated Tamotsu Matsumura (Kariuzawa, JPN) 9-2, then won 7-5 against Shinya Abe (Sapporo, JPN) and 8-3 against Minato Hayamizu (Miyota, JPN). Kim won 7-3 against Qiang Tian (Harbin, CHN), then won 15-2 against Arihito Kasahara (Kanagawa, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Kariuzawa International Championship title, Kim earned 11.250 world rankings points along with the $5,189CDN first prize cheque, moving up 47 spots the World Ranking Standings into 86th place overall with 21.738 total points. Kim ranks 67th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 15.000 points earned so far this season.
