Gushue finished 3-1 in the 24 team Challenge Casino Lac Leamy qualifying round, held October 20 - 23, 2011 at the Buckingham Curling Club in Buckingham, Canada. In their opening game, Gushue defeated Ian Fitzner-Leblanc (Halifax, NS) 7-5, then won 5-2 against Mike Harris (Oakville, ON). Gushue went on to lose 7-3 against Jean-Michel Menard (Gatineau/Levis, PQ). Gushue responded with a 7-1 win over Brett Gallant (Charlottetown, PEI) in their final qualifying round match.
