What is the procedure if you do a mistake in a curling draw?

What happened is that we were in a 15 team bonspiel with three events. We had a bye for our first game which put us in the quarterfinals in the A event. The initial draw had us being done after that game if we lost. Which we were fine with. Then after the quarterfinal game we find out that the draw master changed the schedule and made us drop down to the C event. No one came and talked to us we found out after the game. There was no statement that it was a guaranteed 3 games. The schedule was changed on day 3 of curling in the bonspiel.

What should have been the proper procedure?

We feel a jipped as instead of 3rd or 4th in the A we now have to battle in the C event.

you should still get 3/4 in the A, and then play for a 2nd prize in the C.

They should have just made 3 pools and played a round robin. Guaranteed 4 games. Top 6 go to event finals. Better prizes for the 6 teams, 4 games for the "losers".

I take it you won your first game and then lost second. Most people think if there are three events you are guaranteed three games. However does not have to be. I do not think draw should ever be changed once event starts. Real problem if you leave an option for losing A semifinalist. Probably just a weekend spiel so pools not very workable with that time frame.

In a 15 team bonspiel draw one team will get a 2 game guarantee because of the first round bye, which is your "third" game. Typically the A quarterfinal losers go to the C-event. First round losers go to the B-event but with a bye you would have bypassed that. There will be other byes in the lower events as well, as 15 teams is an ugly number.

An alternative to a bonspiel draw that is very efficient is a Schenkel, using team DSC shots as a ranking tiebreaker. A Schenkel can be run in large pools or in one large pool with playoffs as desired but requires an even number of teams. These are very easy to set up and administer, and participants know their draw schedule in advance.
