so right now new brunswick and northwest territories are winning through 6. if both hold on (and , really northwest territories should) then the final draw will be meaningless. new brunswick and northwest territories will play to get into the main draw

But... YK is one up on NB - so... yeah NB has hammer in 10. Could be an EE with YK hammer if it goes textbook. Then what?

Come on NWT

So, If I am reading it right, if NT def NB in they RR, the meet in the Championship game. If NB wins that - they go to Scotties. Maybe this should be a best of three. Could be controversial if the one who wins RR loses Championship. Nothing to LOSE by losing the last RR game. Right?... or would there be a TB. Hmm. Help me out here.

unless im missing something and the rules changed the top 2 teams advance to the pre-qualifer game no matter what. it doesnt make a great deal of difference who wins between northwest territories and new brunswick this afternoon because they are both in that pre-qualifier now. the only advantage winning may have would be confidence going forward and possibly hammer in that game.

i feel bad for nunavut and yukon though. they are playing a game for no reason at all now. they get nothing out of it

Boo hoo hoo, everyone knew the rules going into the even, Win or go home. The teams that goes 0- 11 and 1-10 at the scotties still have to play that last game,

So if you know the rules you shouldn't feel bad if you lose?

yeah, and the rules suck. this pre-qualifier is just an embarrassment and its a good thing its over.

asking teams to come down for 1 or 2 days while also excluding them from all the activities and basically acting like they arent there. not only was this idea poorly concieved it was poorly run

and im allowed and they are allowed to feel frustrated and heartbroken even though they knew the rules or i knew the rules.

Yes, and that last game in the last draw many times has a weak team trying to eliminate a better team that needs a win to make the playoffs or a tie-breaker. Love the David & Goliath matchups. Those will be gone next year and there will be an entire pool of almost meaningless seeding pool games. Yuck.

The fact that all three territories were sign up and go to the scottie's just re-affirs my belief they should only get one entry.

Gushue would have one less top ranked team to worry about and the worst thing would be that if Boland had won, it would certainly leave a lot of questions and taint their upset win.

It's always better to not put the players in a position where they can take an advantage by losing.

I'm actually more against having the Brier and Scotties move to pool since it's the thrill of playing every province that excites most people. I get they're doing due to length of the spiel.

If the idea quoted to have a playoff at the Brier or Scotties comes true, why not have the top 4 CTRS teams play off for one spot like the current relegation system so Brad et al don't try to throw a game or two. If your chance is 1/4 you're less likely to throw in the towel.

For a playdown idea, I'd say to condense the Brier and Scotties, there should be 4 regions playing for two spots plus top 2 CTRS. Then if Kerry and Sarah want to come down to Alberta/BC to qualify for the main draw, it's up to them to spend the money.

So essentially instead of a provincial system, you'd have a regional system with Mountain (BC/AB/YT), Prairie (SK/MB/NT/NWT), Central (ON/QC) and Atlantic (PE/NB/NS/NL). Then you can have multiple teams from one province represent the region. I see the US had lots from MN and WI but not as much from NY and WA.

Love this idea but I can already hear the complaints. This is what makes the Canada Cup and the Roar of the Rings so good to watch. All the best teams are present and they all go toe to toe. At the Scottie's and Brier we are deciding our National champion and our representative at the World's. Just because two of our strongest teams might at any one time represent the same province only one can go.

People will throw up history and national bonding as reasons not to change. Poppycock. Everything changes... if Curling Canada is going to pool play I would argue they have thrown history out the window but made our National championships worse. At least this idea gets more best on best play. NU can go with ON/QC and you can keep Team Canada. Nine teams if each region gets two teams. Perhaps give three teams to all but the Atlantic and that gives 12 teams including Team Canada.

Doubt this seismic shift ever happens but it should. Perhaps someday the public will tire of stories of some club team making it to nationals and then getting trounced. I know I am.

I like the idea that club teams can make the Brier/Scotties as I'm an English soccer fan and the FA Cup showed this weekend that the minnows always have a shot.

That being said, there is a huge divide between the real competitors and the rest, so letting the best teams play is likely the best way to do it.

The neigh-sayers will be those that want to see their provincial flag being flown at the Nationals but really, in what other sport does every province and territory get one single entry?
