Device on Olympic competitor’s hip

Hi. Complete newbie, but watching the curling in Korea and noticed the some of the compettitors press buttons on this thing that looks like an old Nokia phone from 1993 which is attached to a strap on their hip (I think).
What on earth is that all about.?

Cheers in advance

It's a stopwatch. They use it to time how long it takes the rock to travel from one point to another as its thrown or just after its thrown. That gives them some idea of how hard/fast it's traveling, and whether or not they should be sweeping it to get into the position they're aiming for.

Jamie Sinclair has just recorded a short video about this. You can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8Erg66xc48
