Women's Hockey

There was another "Big Game" last night and it ended in much the same way as the other "Big Game"

The women's World Hockey Championship game took place in Kamloops, B.C. (an absolutely gorgeous setting)-the time difference also negated any conflict with the NCAA-and (as always) the final game pitted Canada against the US.

These two teams are head and shoulders above the third and fourth teams in the world (Finland and Russia)-even without skates!

Last night was another classic and was decided in overtime, as US goalie Alex Rigsby and Canadian goalie Emerance Maschmeyer conducted a clinic no goals scored during regulation play. It wasn't until Alex Carpenter popped in a rebound just as a US power play was expiring that the Americans were able to defend their title. Needless to say, both goalies were awarded "Players of the Game".

So that makes 3 in a row for the US. I guess Canada will have to be satisfied for 4 consecutive Olympic Golds.

I guess I should have put this thread in "The Pit", but it just seemed to "fit" better here for now.

Another sport pushed by the Canadian sport federation to win olympic and world medals. Guaranteed silver at least since beginning of time and into future. Is there no skill minimums for at least a handful of countries before classified as an olympic sport?

I suppose one American needs to post here in the USA threads. Forget Trump's Mexico wall. Guertzie needs a Canadian firewall on this site. Geoblock Worlds? Heck, geoblock our threads.

I'm not a great trash talker, but I'll try my best. So forgive my ineptitude, my Canadian neighbours (spelling). Here's my best shots:

Sorry that your team sucks (well...except for your goalie...she's really good)

The Lamoureux twins are just south of me about an hour (60 miles or 1,200 something-meters). I remember them playing against my nephew in Squirts. It was a No Checking league, but those gals were obviously never told that because they mixed it up. I remember their dad playing for UND. I think the twins are 26 years old now, so Canada only has to settle for silver another decade or so.

It's really good that Canada always seems to host the big events. If we had home ice, it wouldn't be much of a contest.

Sorry. That's all I got. I'm just not mean enough to talk trash.

Ben Tucker (at least I'm willing to try)

Dang it! The very second I post it moves to The Pit! Lordy, what have I gotten myself into now?

I recant my previous post. Two good teams decided by a bouncing puck in overtime. Best of luck to both going forward.

Ben Tucker (REAL Canadians would call for a coaching change)

Whoa China-at least the Americans get on the podium too. As far as an Olympic sport goes...well you could make the same argument about curling except...oops!

Im sorry but i find womens hockey a total joke and dont know why its allowed to continue. that it has an olympic event is ridiculous. only 2 teams are and ever have been competing for gold and its not likely to change any time soon.

Pretty easy really....

Gender equity.

So long as Men's Hockey is a thing (which may be a problem if the NHL bails...), Women's will be as well.

Should the Men's tourney go, then the women's will almost immediately thereafter

To tell the truth I found the Olympic Women's gold game a lot more exciting than the men. You can't write a script that has the "clinching" goal roll down the ice and hit the post. What women's hockey needs is improvement from the rest of the world to make it more than a 2-team game.
