100,000 new curlers

Calling for volunteers: I am looking to co-ordinate 500 simultaneous open houses in February 2018, right in the middle of the winter olympics.

Seven provinces have a statutory holiday during the Olympics. If we can get 500 clubs in those provinces to host an open house, and each teach 200 curlers how to curl, we can add 100,000 new people who have tried our sport. Not all will become members or long term players of course, but some will.

Details, mailing list, etc here: http://www.familydaycurling.com/

At our open houses we are lucky to get 40 or 5035 people.

When do you hold your open houses? October? My home club does the same, and yes, we are lucky to get 40-50 non members across our entire 5 day open house.

But that's at a time when there is zero curling on TV. The Olympics change everything. Our one day open house charged $5 per person in Feb 2014, and we closed the doors after 391 people showed up.

Well, if all clubs can get 5035 people to their open house, that would be great! We could overtake soccer...
Hell - we could rule the entire world!

But seriously... 100,000 is quite a lofty goal. But better to aim high than low.

I have just sent a letter to each of the provincial & territorial associations, as well as Curling Canada. Read a copy here:

http://www.familydaycurling.com/201...l-associations/

If you work at the association level, please encourage them to read the letter, and participate.

Also: I have received offers (thanks Gerry!) to carry banner ads for the idea. Any artists out there willing to create something nice?
