Even though Jones has been absorbing beatings from lesser players at this event - I think it was important for her to participate. #1 - she's still the biggest draw in women's curling and Manitoba fans don't get to see her play live much anymore. So kudos to Jennifer, a true sportsman, regardless of obvious decline in her mid-40s.
Note that more Jones players are in the mixed vs. Homan players. What does that indicate? Obviously, Rachel is focusing on winning Ontario and keeping her team on the upper plateau it seems to have attained. Rachel, Emma & Lisa decided to skip the mixed in Portage - they could easily have entered teams. Only Joanne Courtney fulfilled her obligation to Reid Carruthers and that team is still alive.
Jones has been pushed aside. Didn't even get to a qualifying game in C event.
Kaitlyn Lawes with the semi-retired firebrand John Morris has qualified despite Morris lack of curling this season.
Jill Officer entered a team - obviously with a relative or friend and was dispensed with even faster than Jones.
Peterman fielded a team. Only Dawn McEwen said enough is enough with Mike and declined entry.
Its a dicey choice whether to play as much as possible, risking burnout or injury. Homan is usually all over most events. But NOT THIS YEAR!
I'm one of the good guys now!
