Question Choice of a new desumidifier

Our Club is now looking to change its deshumidifier next spring. We have two sheets, on sand, about 60 000 cubic feet. We think that there are two types of apparels, freon and electric. We would need advice on the right type for our curling activities.

Based on our experience down here in DC...go desiccant. (Google "desiccant dehumidifier).

We've gone from no way in hell our old dehumidifier could keep up (admittedly, the original was far under speced for the size of our shed) to having to run the current desiccant model at less than full throttle because we *overdry* our air...and the bills are less too.

+1 from Alan on a desiccant.

Make sure you the installer/supplier understands the actual temperature range for a curling club. Our temps are much lower than other locations.

Good points made...

refrigeration dehumidifiers are significantly less effective at temps below about 15ºC.

We've been using a gas fired desiccant with a controller that reacts on dew point (rather than relative humidity) for about 4 years. We set the dew point about 0.5º - 1º above the ice surface temp and have achieved a balance of virtually no frost and low sublimation. We have no temp control in the shed but can maintain dew point perfectly even when the room drops below 0ºC.

Our space is about double the size of yours.
