Thank you for clarifying...but IMO, once a curler is eliminated from their Provincial playdowns, they should be allowed to spare. Or is it because of the rule they cannot be registered in 2 provinces for playdowns leading to National events?

"Wow 60,589 hits on the Briar "

Please Fresca, a small request, it is "The Brier" not "Briar". Maybe it is your auto-correct but a person with your vast knowledge and expertise should not be constantly making this mistake.

nope," he's a Moran"...and i purposely typed it "moran" instead of "moron" just to make him feel more at home and to increase hits.

was talking to someone that goes to every Briar , said that the Patch was the smallest in years, the whole week was stormy and taxi weather, and the crowds were like Vancouver Olympics - many many novice curlers that attended to see what curling was all about.

Too bad they didn't go to the Brier this year, it was awesome ( and I go to the Brier every year). We walked everywhere, and there never was a day when we could not comfortably do so, it wasn't stormy and while the patch was small it was perfect most nights. The crowds were enthusiastic for Newfoundland and cheered their shots ( and were excited when the other teams missed, although they were not abusive and did not heckle teams). At the end of the last round robin draw, the crowd ( full of novice curlers) waited around and gave each team a standing ovation, including a prolonged and heartfelt one (where all the remaining games stopped so the players on the ice could salute him) to Glenn Howard. The volunteers were fantastic as were the people of St. John's. Maybe your someone should attend the "Brier"next year since the imitation "briar"he went to obviously couldn't compare.

were you there? I was and it's all as I said, walked everywhere and other than the wind on the final Saturday ( which we walked through both to and from the Mile One) it was fine.As for the smallest patch, the one in Kamloops was both smaller and far less accessible than the one in St. John's.

Yes, I was there. That's how I knew who Team Canada's 5th man would be.
"and there was never a day where we could not comfortably do so"

Your words.
There was nowhere on Saturday that you could "comfortably" walk to unless you were inside.

We walked from 9 military road ( the roses bed and breakfast) along duckworth past the big construction crane to the mile one arena to the game, even stopping to grab a coffee at the timmies on duckworth, then back along new gower, up the hill to gower past the churches to our b and b that evening ( Saturday). We walked everyday along that same route varying it up along Water or gower at least twice every day. The conditions were never even close to bad enough to think about taking a bus or taxi.In total we walked 112km during that period, including a trip up Signal Hill and back.

By the way Fresca, I'll be at the 2018 Tim Horton's Brier in Regina next year. You should attend ( if the dates don't conflict with your Briar) so we can have a chance to discus this sentiment in person over zero calorie grapefruit flavoured sodas. see you there.
