Women's Olympics

Joan went on a rant about Canada's 5th, how the team should take who they want until silenced by Harris.

Team Koe has their 5th & coach...team Homan has their 5th, coach & the national coach! Is CC not confident in Homan? When they won the world's they had Cheryl K & their coach/ psychologist. With the nervous curling I'm watching, maybe CC should have left well enough alone...IMHO.

Watching some nervous strategy and play by Canada against a medal possibility in Korea. I suspect Homan will eventually shot-pelt the hell out of the Koreans before subduing them in 10th end final stones - or an extra end!

Middle of the 5th end, the camera stopped on Cheryl...Rainey noted that was the 5th...then the rant started.

I agree 100% with Joan. I think that's the first time ever.

Why the meddling with Homan and not Koe? Because Koe would say go F yourself.

I believe in Team Homan. They will still get a medal, and it probably should be gold. Still, this performance against South Korea is weak. Homan herself has had some shocking misses by wide margins. The game stats have Homan curling near 80%, but that doesn't tell the story. They might still beat South Korea, but I hope this is the one nervous game out of the way rather than an indication of things to come.

Is that what's happening? I get the feeling Homan doesn't get bossed around much either.

Korean team is 21 in order of merit and is the current asia pacific champs. I find the commentators acting surprised by their level of play. these are not naive curlers. They've been playing the circuit for years and earned their Oly spot - without the host team berth. http://www.worldcurl.com/oom/teams.php?teamid=109521

I hope that CC is not paying the pycho coach a lot of $. He is not earning his keep tonight. And Renee - what are her qualifications to be head coach?

Actually he'll be really earning his money tonight to talk them off the ledge after that call in 9. Run back never scores more than one with the angles. Dumb.

Agree. Dumb call. Low percentage all the way, with the draw possible for 1. Shrugs. Ms Homan - on an earlier miss, I heard McCusker say "she was light" (which she was) and camera caught Rachel saying wrong ice. (not my fault). I've met skips that are never wrong. Yikes Psychs.

That high risk, no reward call in ninth is result of a skip that has enjoyed much success and developed a certain arrogance and need of the "hero" shot thrill.

k

Surely Emma could have talked her into the draw? Or was Rachel in such a mood the rest of the team just stayed quiet.

I'm not sure about their chances but hope this is a hiccup in the road to the finals.

She was potentially overcompensating for her earlier misses by trying the hero shot.

Based on how the South Koreans played that final end, Canada really should have been okay with 5-5 heading into the tenth. Maybe putting the pressure back on South Korea would have forced some mistakes instead of arrogantly trying to overwhelm their opponent with a miraculous shot.

CrlrBroad, Emma tried. She tried. Thinking Rachel is a weak link. Mad about something and not caring. Really needs to snap out of it. I never get a sense that Homan enjoys the game. You gotta like curling to win. - I agree with arrogance comments too. She needs to be a team player.

What's happening with Team Homan? It's not complicated, it's in fact a one word answer. Rachel. It's been the theme all season. They have had a very mediocre season, Roar of the Rings excepted. In the past it has been Emma who has been the least consistent player on the team with Rachel making everything no matter how much trouble Emma put her in. Now she ain't. She still can and hopefully will when the playoffs comes around. But it just ain't been her year. No matter how good you are not every year is going to be a great one. Took Martin three tries to win Olympic gold and he lost three of four World finals and he's generally considered the greatest curler of all time.

The good news is the front end is playing really solid and Emma is now pretty consistently great. Go Team Canada!

The team who is having a banner year is Team Jones. They are #1 in the world, Canadian Champions and the leading money winner on the Slam circuit. Roar of the Rings excepted they have been the dominant team all season. Team Homan by contrast is 3rd on the year in terms of CTRS points, 2nd in the world and 9th in terms of money.

Tell you what though, Team Jones would trade places in a nano second if that meant they were playing right now. So I say again....Go Team Canada! :-)

When your teammates average a little under 90%, how do you lose? Folks, welcome to Rachel's world. Actually it all came down to 2 ends. Homan had last rock in both the 5th and the 9th, made two bonehead tactical decisions and then proceeded to miss both shots. Game over, lights out! Knowing Homan, I'm sure she is feeling badly about letting her team down against Korea. Let's hope she doesn't make things worse today.

wow. rachel starts 0-2. did not see that coming.

they haven't looked very good all year . very inconsistent. still..0-2 is not a great way to start in this field

jacobs did start 1-2 in 2014 and ran from there. rachel could do the same still but she's just not looking confident.

Well it's pedal to the metal time. Rachel had a really good game. Unfortunately she got a bad time from the front end in the 11th. Jo Ann told her it was slowing down, and called out 5/6 out of her hand. I.e. Top eight foot. And swept it for the first half. Turned out back 8 so they got the time and the sweeping wrong. What'r'ya gonna do? You make your best guess and you don't always get it right.

You hate to get in to the 'must win' position so early but if anybody can handle it this team is the one. I still like their chances and would still bet on them for Gold. Can get better odds at this point too:-)

Bode Miller on line 2. Wants to tell you all the grief he took saying the same thing about an American female skier.
