Denmark is no doubt this years "surprise'...team..

and I can see them battling it out with China for playoff spot, hard to say whether teams with 4 loses already have a shot, unless them Danes get beat by either Sweden or later by Team Canada..we could have a wild finish after this evenings draw.

People are showing how little knowledge they know about curling. The game would not be near as popular as it is, if Paul Gowsell didn't play.

Ulsrud is also on 4 losses, but with 1 less game played...Norway closes with the US and Russia so they 'should' finish 7-4

I think if Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Czech Republic all end at 7-4 then the following happens. Denmark and Sweden are 2-1 against the other teams. Sweden gets the 3 spot based on head to head. Denmark gets the bye and NOR-CZE is first TB, winner gets DEN for the 4th spot.

I don't think they go to a 4 team tiebreak. They always place teams if possible.

Yes they do. Both in 2007 and 2009 when 4 teams w2ere tied for the last 2 spots they did a 4 team tiebreak.

I was basing it on this:
"Where three or more teams are tied, the record of the games between the tied teams shall provide the ranking (should this procedure provide a ranking for some teams but not all, then the record of the games between the remaining teams that are still tied shall determine the ranking)"

Two teams are "clearly" ranked above the other two. Then you go back to head to head to rank those teams. Sweden gets the 3 spot.

Now, I just looked at the TB scenarios on the WCF site.
3 v 6 (Q 3rd) + 4 v 5 (Q 4th). So, the following would be the ranking:
Sweden, Denmark, Czech, Norway. That is SWE-NOR and DEN-CZE.

JH
guess it comes down to interpretation and who does it.

If Sweden and Denmark both end up at 7-4 it means they both will have beaten Canada today. That would also make Canada 7-4 and so if Norway and Czech Republic also get there we'd have a 5 way tie for 2nd.

Time for another "LEGENDARY" list of the most compelling character in curling (OK, I'll defer to listing them for the last 20 years or so)

1. Kevin Martin - love him or hate it, he's possibly the most compelling curling character of all-time. Combining amazing precise talent and daring shot-making with some of the most interesting and disturbing mutterances known to man. K-Mart ranks #1.

2. Sandra Schmirler - the attractive and winning lassie from Sask'n; she was a compelling item during her great years on the ice, now a legendary name in death.

3. Colleen Jones - most curling fans disliked Coco, her style of game was defensive and pedantic but her on-ice image is unforgettable despite the in-game drawbacks.

4. Ferbey/Nedohin - they ruled the roost for a few years and Nedohin's precise shot-making made everyone stand up and take notice.

5. Kerry Burtnyk - the Bald Bomber, the youngest skip to win a Brier (1981) plus some other great on-ice moments. DOesn't measure up to Jeff SToughton for Manitoba titles, Briers or World titles but a compelling force on and off the ice.

6. Elisabet Gustafson - beauty and grace, she ruled womens curling for what seemed an eternity.

7. Eddy the Wrench Werenich - body shape plays into this a bit, but The Wrench could make a ton of shots, also sniped with the best of them. Too bad the on-ice microphone didn't make an appearance til Fast Edward was done.

8. Jennifer Jones - not often you see a beautiful, well-educated woman curl with the intensity, ferocity and skill like JJ did. Also introduced us to some of her personality side-bars like Cathy O, Jill Officer, Dawn Serious, now bringing in Kaitlyn Lawes, who herself will be a most compelling curling personality.

9. The Howards - intense competitors, great as a brother act, as effective on the Brier and WOrld circuit as on cash circuit. However, my main memory of the Howards was when Russ imported onto Young Goo's team and ended up with Olympic gold medals.

10. Rick Folk - the great man of the prairies. A winner, a great competitor who delivered great games to fans everywhere and on TV.

11. Alan Hackner - the original iceman. Lots of Brier experiences, couple of pratfalls, too. Brought on Mick Jagger as his third. They will always be The ROLLING STONES to me.

12. Vic Peters - nobody was hungrier for a Brier than Sir Victor, and he finally made it.

13. Schopp/Wagner - and one of them is still going, albeit with not much talent anymore.

14. Brad Gushue - THE GOO has been one of the great warlords of trading curlers left and right. But he's been a great participant at Brier thru his NFLD auto-berth.

15. Connie Laliberte - perhaps the most boring skip with a dull personality yet some of her best matches were ELECTRIC. Too bad the wheels fell off Connie shortly after the FGZ arrived.

Hon. mentions - Koe (all three), Cathy King, Shannon Kleibrink, Jeanna Schraeder, Hec Gervais, Bob Pickering, Garnet Campbell, Ron Northcott, Don Duguid, Rod Hunter, JIm Pettapiece, Bryan Wood, Orest Meleschuk.

Russ Howard is easily top 3, maybe #1. In his heyday that was must see TV. That you put Burtnyk, Ferbey, Gustavson ahead is laughable.

Weird scorelines

between scotland and finland..very odd scoreline.

also between norway and the US. US gets up 7-2 and norway has come all the way back to tie 7-7

Devastating loss for norway. To come all the way back from 0-5 and 2-7 down to tie and then not be able to cap it off.

Fantastic win for Denmark. Some may be surprised but I eyed them as the dark horses to medal here at this event and im sticking with that.

Mess of a 2nd place tie if Canada loses to Sweden tonight. And Canada would have lost to all the teams they would be tied with, which can't be good for working out the tiebreak.

yeah, i didnt think about that but your right. If the czech republic and sweden win tonight then , by virtue of their round robin performances the standings would look like this:

1st - scotland
2nd - sweden
3rd - denmark
4th - canada/czech republic

meaning canada would from having 2 chances to finish in the 1 v.s 2 game to possibly finishing 5th and getting nothing at all.

On the other hand if canada, china, norwayand switzerland win tonight the standings would look like this:

1st - canada
2nd - scotland
3rd - denmark
4th - sweden, switzerland, china, czech republic, norway

what a headache that would be wouldnt it? 5 teams playing tiebreakers to determine 4th place. How would you even manage that? . Of those 5 teams norway has the best H2H among them, finishing 3-1 against the rest. Would that mean anything at all>

Jacobs is done like dinner 7 and 3 right now, and they got the Swed's who are curling good right now. A skip curling bellow 80% is not going to cut it.

After a great start, I wonder what is going on. Jacob's is a way better skip than what he is playing now.

Part of the issue is Fry who I saw miss some very critical shots today. Jacobs has to have all his guns firing throughout the lineup.

It is funny how some are breaking their ankles jumping off the Canada bandwagon. In all 3 losses, the opposition has curled 90%+ and really not missed anyting. It happens!

From WCF site
7 v 8 then the winner
plays v 4; + 5 v 6;
the 2 winners play (Q 4th)
(5 teams are numbered 4,5,6,7,8

so based of that then those 5 teams would finish like this:

4.norway
5.china
6.sweden
7.switzerland
8.czech republic

which means switzerland would play the czech republic and the winner would go on to play norway. sweden and china would play eachother

and then the winners of sweden v.s china and norway v.s czech republic/switzerland would play for the final playoff spot

do i have that understood right?
