The pacific championship starts tomorrow, which determines the 2 teams going to worlds for that region. For the first time ever Hong Kong is sending representatives but on the mens side only.

Favorites as always will be china, south korea and japan but new zealand is dangerous.

On the womens side , there are only 5 teams. This year australia did not send a team. The 3 contenders will be japan, south korea and china. In a bit of a surprise move south korea has sent the team skipped by un-chi gim over eun-jung kim. maybe there was a national championship to determine who goes, im not sure. In any case this will, as always be a tight 3 team race between the 3 teams mentioned above.

predictions:

mens side: champions will be japan. runners up..going out on a limb and saying south korea

womens side: champions will be south korea. runners up will be china

Well china will miss the mens world championship. south korea men defeated them in the semifinal and will face japan in the final.

it is what i predicted but its a huge blow to china, who have made worlds since 2007 and won every pacific championship on the mens side since 2007.

can the women do the same and beat china in the semi tomorrow?. i hope so, because im a real fan of this korean team and i hope nothing but good things for them after what they went through. but they have lost to china twice already and i dont think thats going to change

South korea does it again, defeating china in the semifinals. Japan beats kazakhstan and then south korea in the final to win japan's first pacific championship since 2005 on the ladies side.

Congrats to south korea and japan for qualifying for the world curling championships on both the mens and the womens side. This is going to be a huge blow to china to not qualify for either the mens or womens events
