Changes in Nova Scotia

Tweets today indicate they will be combining men's and women's provincials, bringing in a first class ice maker to improve ice and awarding 2 spots in the provincials from national ranking points to encourage bonspiels participation. All great ideas! Wonder if we have Mr. Dacey to thank.

As a NS curler, i still don't think any of these changes will improve our play at the national level. Teams need sponsors, they need to travel, and they need to commit to the training and practice that the best teams do.
Good ice is only a small piece of the puzzle. Playing against good competition consistently is way more important.

You're right...these changes won't make a huge impact at the national level, but at least it will help a little bit in ensuring the team that can do the best on that kind of ice gets out of our province.

It really is only a small part and hence why the NSCA shouldn't be fronted with the blame. The majority of the "athletes" in Nova Scotia, and I use that term loosely, are well behind in terms of fitness, training, off-ice performance and discipline (go eat clean, rest up, etc instead of going to the patch all the time).

I'll bring it back to Brad Jacobs and team. They would have had much bigger travel expenses flying out of the Soo than anyone flying out of Halifax. But they worked hard on and off the ice and started small and as the results came they were able to get bigger sponsors and do more. Rome wasn't built in a day.

These ideas are long overdue.
I also support and am sure the pressures placed on the NSCA have been useful.
