At Brier Time... Some Not-So-Profound Questions About The Curlers...

Is that Brad Jacobs’ real hair on the top of his head, or is it the remnants of last season's beard?

How do they get ‘Koowie’ out of ‘Koe’?
If Kevin’s name were Joe, and Jamie’s name were Moe, would they be Joowie and Moowie Koowie?
Would Edgar Allan Poe have enjoyed as successful a literary career had he employed this pronunciation of his name?

Has Brad Gushue ever been approached to market Shoo Goo? It would seem a natural fit...

Share your not-so-profound questions and curiosities below...

The English language has always been a mystery..... especially in NFLD.
You might want to ask the hockey player Alexander Semen about the pronunciation of his name.

When are they going to go to one hack right on the center line?
When are they going to move the idiotic red cups from the playing area?
Add electronics to measure if a stone is in the rings or out, similar to hogline violation?
5th man has to play a minimum amount of ends?

As electronic handles stand currently, this isn't possible.

The electronic sensors only "arm" for one minute after the stone is inverted, and they are wired to sense the presence or absence of a hand on the handle at the time the stone crosses a magnetic line.

Even if you put a perfect magnetic line around the 12' circle (good luck with that), it would only sense if someone was gripping the handle after turning the stone upside down.

That act would, inherently, move the stone, thereby invalidating the measurement anyhow.

The handles would have to be *completely* reworked to accomplish this, for a case where only maybe 2 or 3 stones per competition have the question asked.

Not really worth it.

Besides, admit it, measurements are good tv...

I was born and raised in Yellowknife. I knew a number of people with the last name Koe. When I left the north 40+ years ago the pronunciation was Koe as in Edgar Allan Poe. I'm almost positive that Fred Koe pronounced it that way back in the day.

When it became the present pronunciation I have no idea. I suspect it has something to do with native heritage.

If anybody knows the answer to this question I'd be really interested in hearing it.

While Tessa may well be a nice person, Kaitlyn likely doesn't consider it a virtue on Scott's part.

In no other sport can we watch Newfies and Neufelds play against each other...

Why does Russ keep calling Vic "Cheryl"?

Why doesn't Kevin Koe pronounce the name of his curling club as "Glencoowie"?
