I am too lazy to look this up and I assume someone (like Gerry) knows the answer to this question:

Can the two USA Men's curling teams ever get into a situation where they mix and max players between teams too much and get into 'problems' with their OOM points, based on roster rules?

For instance, they have already switched Zezel and McCormick. If they make another switch (not involving Zezel or McCormick) ---- is that the last switch they can make without risking OOM points?

Currently they are in no danger of any OOM issues (with the free pass to Nationals).... But what about in the future when (hopefully) they gain enough points to get into a Slam? Or their OOM points hurting (or not helping is more accurate) the SOF of an event? Could they get into a situation that a change in the roster would cost the team a spot in a Slam?

I'll put in what I can, until Gerry sees and replies.

Switching one player won't change anything, as any team need only retain 3 of 4 (or 4 of 5) to carry over their full points. After that though it starts getting fractious. I don't believe that leads and seconds carry as many points as thirds and skips do, so if you had a situation where someone who bounced between second and third was moved it'd get real hairy, real fast. For example, with Kroy now throwing third when he had been throwing second, what would the point situation be if he got moved to the other team?

Messy, to say the least.

I was surprised to see a while back in USCA rules mention of the OOM and CZ itself, too, IIRC. No mention there, I recall of WCF or the Slam officials having any oversight of how the OOM is calulated. But surely, WCF must have some oversight of OOM? Or does WCF only look at on-ice results to give out World and Olympic slots? So, who and how exactly are OOM points and team rules determined?

If the powers that be just want to promote professional and TV-exciting curling by having more competitions with elite and deemed spnonsor- and TV-interesting teams, then I would suspect all "national" teams would be given whatever points National Team A and/or B, C, D... accumulates.

Two websites with lots of information, which is actually correct as opposed to what was posted here.

worldcurl.com explains how OOM points are assigned and what events garner points.

worldcurling.org is the WCF site and has info on the world qualification and the two year Olympic qualification. Two things to point out, the defending champion does not get a spot and the Asia-Pacific championship qualifies two countries. For the Olympics, the hosting country gets a spot.
