2 Ghastly shots

by Miss Birchard . . . . . Kat Einarson should have scored 3 or 4 but was too respectful to JJ about the "quad".

Heavy by half a foot - Birchard looks extremely tight - Kaatz is blowing her away!

Jones can stay in the thing so long as Einarson doesn't roll 85|%

Ice Conditions

These announcers spend so much time gushing how great the ice and consistent it is. Where were they this afternoon when it was crap for the first 7 ends and both teams struggled. The ice maker admittedly lowered the temperature causing wicked changes in curl than ANY OTHER DAY OF THE WEEK, yet for 2 hours they had 15 excuses as why the ice changed. IF I was a conspiracy theorist...... I would say it was done on purpose so that both semi teams would struggle with the changing ice only to have it change again at night while Jones has no change.

Major shot call error on last rock. Draw only call. Frozen rock blank impossible.

Jones is also struggling - moreso with her game calls - but she appears to be in mid-season form - which is NOT GOOD IF YOU'RE A JONES FAN!

I'm not shocked at all. Jones has been an inconsistent performer all season long. Her mechanics, while still appearing solid are beginning to abandon her - lots of pitch-forking hits on both turns.

She's obviously lost confidence in Birchard, too. Trying to do it all on her own. Dawn & Jill can just watch.

Jones would have barfed up a steal of two if she drew so she's luck she's only down 4-2, not 5-2.
But now she'll abandon all semblance of defense - so its likely Einarson racks her up.

she's been inconsistent but she's usually brought it in finals. and it's not just jen herself, it's the entire team down the line

What was Einarson thinking? You have to put the pressure back on Jones on the final shot. A hit and roll is such an iffy shot to try. I never thought she was going to make it, and I really thought she would have made the double.

Very happy for Jones. Well deserved.

Congrats Team Jones - she never gives up and always fights right to the end.

Came out blazing after the 5th end break.

(Jill and her niece, was very nice at the end, instead of celebrating with the team, Jill was hugging her niece on the other team)

AMAZING!

Jones wins 6th STOH title before Brady wins 6th Super Bowl ring.

One time Einarson needed an experienced coach was in the 10th where she couldn't hide it in the right place.

Almost too routine for a JJ finish!

Loved Jilly going all emotional with her niece who played a wonderful game (McCuish)

Great day for Manitoba curling. Reid Carruthers wins Manitoba title on last rock vs. Magic MIke McEwen and now Birchard goes to the worlds as 5th for Jones, Lawes comes back from Olympics to be JJ's 3rd.

Einarson shows she's made of the right stuff. No disgrace. Next time bring a coach Kerri. Bring a coach!

As JJ always says:

AMAZING!!!

Wonder who he'll play. Botcher, Epping, Laycock, Cotter all probably in via provincials.

Wonder who the next CTRS points person is - long way down the line - Gunnlaugson, Mark Kean, Lord William Lyburn, The Flying Frenchmen.

My guess is its Gunner or Kean. Should be interesting!

Anyone know who the color guy was on the Manitoba SN broadcast? Tell him I thought he was good! fwiw

Epping is in the Brier. Cotter lost in BC final. Laycock is in brier. Bottcher is in brier. So.. Cotter is a good bet. And some others on the list. Order looks like McEwen Gunner Simmons Howard.

Johnny Mo is gonna be enraged Cotter didn't pull thru - especially in that weak morass of BC curling.
Don't know if Cotter/Mo played enough events and racked up enough points to make it.

Gunner was very active on this year's tour - albeit with less than stellar results.

Is the decision on teams purely CTRS driven - or can a *star* team like Cotter/Morris insinuate themselves into the field?

Next year's STOH should be a dandy.

Jen Jones should continue her career as Team Canada.

Rachel Homan should return from Olympics to recapture her Ontario auto-berth.

Fleury or McCarville from N. Ontario's pool of 2 strong teams.

Scheidegger should be favored over Carey (who might be rebuilding her team) or Val Sweeting (who might be in the mood for change, too)
Einarson's experience at the Scotties should give her the #1 seeding and favorite status in Manitoba
Stacie Curtis will be back from the Rock, more motivated than ever.
Maryanne is turning 50 but she was the best I've seen from N.S. in years.
If Fleury or McCarville, Carey, Sweeting or Scheidegger don't make it via provincials they'll be first in line for the wildcard spot.

Where is the 2019 event? Do I hear Brandon?

Congratulations Penticton

Looked like a FULL HOUSE for tonite's FINALE GOLD MEDAL GAME - which is amazing going up against a Tom Brady vs. Eagles SUPER BOWL.

Most off-ice stuff appeared to be well-handled - crowds picked up as the event wound down. It was really nice to see a BC spot other than Kamloops or Kelowna embrace the event.

Now send me a couple boxes of peaches or appleberry wine!

FYI Johnny Mo could not have curled for BC anyway as they already have their one LEGAL non resident Schnieder from SK. . Please don't tell me BC curling and Curling Canada would allow Johnny Mo to cheat again as a "fishing guide the following season"!!!!!
All know he's a "resident " of Alberta and has been for many years.

Or did they fake the residency for Catlin? He's still listed as SK.

What a farce/cover up the deal they made to avoid relegation.

You simply cannot relegate the 3rd largest province in the nation.
Legendary men have come from the shores of the west coast . . . .

Men like Lyall Dagg, men like Reg Stone, Frenchy D'Amour, Bernie Sparks, Bert Gretzinger, Pat Ryan, Rick Folk (originally from Sask'n), Greg McCauley (originally from Manitoba), Bobby Ursel, Mr. Cotter.

Need to build up the curling fort once again. (Men & Women)

Birchard will not be going to worlds with the Jones team. Lawes will be joining the team for worlds. This was decided before the Scotties if the Jones team happened to win .

I thought the arrangement was as follows. Lawes misses STOH due to Olympic mixed obligations but is listed as team 5th at Scotties (even though the chair was empty) so that she could resume 3rd services for JJ in event they won. Birchard would be given the opportunity to go to worlds as team 5th. But I guess she's got the option to decline the opportunity - or the team could vote to bring Officer's niece Kristen McCuish along.
Should now this week sometimes.
immo Birchard earned her keep. She may have started feeling the nerves last couple draws (page playoffs) but she played thru it and was totally serviceable, if not spectacular.
Far more assertive and participative than Kaitlyn was when she first boarded the Jones Express. Kaitlyn would almost burst into tears when she missed a shot - she was in total fear and awe of Jones.
In any event Shannon Birchard has earned her honour!

I don't care who they had in your distant past, The rules 2-5 years ago was residents only. BC curling AND Curling Canada were lax or incompetent or even worse in cahoots in enforcing the residency rules allowing Mo to
pretend to live there during the season so long as the NEXT SEASON he went to BC to be a fishing guide. Look it up.Legend before you spew..Mo never "lived" a day in BC.
