TV Coverage of the Women's Worlds - list
Hi all.
I've been through the TV listings for the upcoming Women's World Championships in Beijing, China. Much of it will be covered on US sports channels, and I thought I'd share what I found here.
All times listed are in Eastern Daylight Time.
Sat. Mar. 18
1 am, Draw 1, USA vs Scotland on Universal HD
7 am, Draw 2, USA vs Sweden on Universal HD
9:30 pm, Draw 3, a TBD match on NBC SN. The actual draw begins at 9pm, so they're joining this one late or delaying it a bit, owing to the length of the event preceding this on their schedule.
Sun. Mar. 19
9 pm, Draw 6, a TBD match on NBC SN. US plays Canada in this slot, so I'd guess that'll be the one.
Mon. Mar. 20
7 am, Draw 8, Canada vs Switzerland and/or Germany vs China. Universal HD
9 pm, Draw 10, Canada vs South Korea, Universal HD
Tues. Mar. 21
7 am, Draw 11, USA vs China, Universal HD
Wed. Mar. 22
7 am, Draw 14, USA vs Russia, Universal HD
9 pm, Draw 15, Canada vs Italy and/or China vs Sweden, Universal HD
Fri. Mar. 24
7 am, Page Playoff, 1 vs. 2, Universal HD
Sat. Mar. 25
7 pm, a delayed TBD round robin match on NBC SN (why?)
10 pm, Bronze Medal Match, Universal HD
Sun. Mar. 26
3 pm, Gold Medal Match, NBC SN. This is delayed 12 hours from the live event at 3 am.
As you can see, there are lots of gaps. Fortunately, World Curling TV over at youtube will also be covering at least one match in every draw (except perhaps the round robin tiebreaker should there be one), however, some or all of that may be geoblocked in the US due to some US TV networks having some rights. We'll have to wait and see what happens on that score.
Also, for me personally, I bristled at first at seeing most of it on Universal HD, as that's on a tier I don't normally pay for, but I checked into it, and found that DirecTV has a promotion on right now where you can get this channel and a few others for three months at no extra charge, and dump it at no cost at the end of the three months if you don't want it anymore. ($5 a month after that if you do.)
