OOOH I thought it was my last rant but the more I see the Leafs lose AGAIN,the more i get aggravated.

Could be my grumpy old man syndrome but really, let the curling show. Pick a channel, tv, online, streaming, hand drawn facsimile...for those old enough to remember...

I'm sorry but this is the last rant today.

YOU ARE THE BROADCASTER.

YOU OWN THE SLAMS.

MAKE THE DRAW TO FIT THE TV SCHEDULE TO N O T INTERFERE WITH THE HOCKEY SCHEDULE. I don't pretend to be a tv producer but if I'm a sponsor of the slams, PINTYS , I'd much rather see my product televised to 100's of thousands than streamed to 50. I wonder if they know the highest drawing draw is NOT on tv but streamed to the few. I am CERTAIN that the TV draw could have been done to circumvent the hockey games.

I had no trouble watching game on laptop. Went to Sportsnet website, clicked on ad for game. Put in our provider Shaw and there it was. No fee.

Sadly, the Stanley Cup playoffs are just starting, which means multiple games every night. And with the millions Rogers paid for the rights, they’ll devote all the channels to hockey to maximize viewership. I don’t know how they can adjust the Players Championship draw to get around that. How I wish there was a dedicated curling channel/network in Canada...

No... it's actually quite meaningless - as can be seen in the very relaxed attitudes of the players - smiling and laughing significantly more than usual (except the Homan team, of course).
It's also the end of the season, and pretty much everyone is ready for and looking forward to a nice rest.

I haven't watched - but it has never seemed that they "loved" the game. They liked the win, the glory, and the fear they put in others. With that gone.. meh.

I think this ^ is quite an accurate assessment of the Homan team's current condition.

Has anyone found out why Joanne is listed as lead on the team list for Homan? Is she throwing lead rocks and what is the reason given?

Players Championship

Watching Team Jones vs Team Homan yesterday, it was very clear the difference between the two teams at present is at third position, Lawes and Miskew. Hope that Miskew and Team Homan can build back their confidence. It has been a great season for Team Jones when early on at the trials the result was not what they had hoped for.

I don't think Emma is the only reason Team Homan continues to fall down the stairs. They obviously started re-tooling the team when they declared Courtney the team lead for this slam - possibly putting both Courtney and Weagle "on trial".
Rachel was really pulling the string and coming up empty on all counts vs. a Jones that really wasn't sharp at all - Jones is noticeably weaker when she plays Homan for reasons unknown - perhaps fear of Rachel's nuclear shots is part of it.
Once Jones lured Rachel into a nuanced game it was pretty much a fait accompli . . . even with Jones trying her damnedest to help out Homan when Jones was sitting 3 or 4 in house and Jones was still clearing guards vs. sealing off house access. When JJ started clearing - both Lawes & Jones started jamming Rachel's front stones into their own house rocks. But JJ always does that - she'd rather have a semi-open house when nursing leads vs. unexpected complications. When the clearing shots go poorly it looks like Jones may have hooped herself.

I'll bet dollars to donuts one group looking to kick Homan when she's down and lickin' their lips at the thought of pounding them is Eve Muirhead.

Warning to Eve: You might be a better overall curler (all aspects included) than Rachel Homan I wouldn't be too confident in the sad sacks you have (aka Scottish Curling Federation) have installed on your team.

Emma Miskew on kryptonite is still a better player than Anna Sloan - ANY DAY.
Courtney at regular power is slightly better than Adams at her best.
Only at lead its close as Lisa appears to be 'on trial' for Team Homan.

That said, Princess Eve will be looking to submit Homan early and secure a playoff spot at this slam.

The only thing Rachel has to play for (2 things actually, one is pride) is to upset Muirhead and spoil her playoff ambitions.

Rachel was interviewed about the front end switch and she indicated it was something Joanne and Lisa wanted to do/try. Back to their old positions for the Jones game.

Quite a number of teams have shuffled their lineups for this week. It seems like they're just having fun. Ryan Fry was calling the game last night for Team Jacobs (Brad still threw 4th), and John Shuster was playing 3rd while George skipped and threw 4th.

Koe also got sick or injured as he started the game vs. Meed Reid Carruthers - but left early - leaving a 3 man team of Benny, Lainger & Kennedy.

Kennedy still controlling Meed Reid, game tied 4-4 coming home with Kennedy holding hammer.

Homan, the wonderkind who has been unable to deliver since the Olympic Trials, is probably in for some more troublesome days in the Players' and the upcoming Champions Cup unless some radical changes are affected. Since both Miskew and Weagle have always made it perfectly clear that they would never consider throwing the last brick, ( Miskew won't even do this in Mixed Doubles ) I'd like to see Courtney step into the breech for these few remaining games to perhaps demonstrate if it might be possible to resuscitate this talented but clearly lethargic, listless, couldn't - care - less "team". If not, probably it's time for them to pack it in; the status quo is neither acceptable nor sustainable.

I’m no sports head shrink but it seems to me they had way more focus and direction under the coaching of Earl Morris.
I suppose I’m old school but playing in the Olympics without a coach is plain dumb.Maybe next time we could borrow one of the Canadian coach’s from the other competing countries(sic). ..(yah I know they had a coach but not THERE
coach.

Rachel completes a perfect 5-Squash - getting herself squashed 5 times in 5 trips to the well.

Could have disasterous consequences for her (and her team's) psyche but IT ALSO COULD BE THE FIRST STEP ON THE ROAD BACK TO CIVILIZATION.

Meanwhile Jennifer Jones will be somewhat jittery even though she sailed thru the round-robin with an unbeaten 5-0 record. She'll have to play the tie-breaker winner between Satsuki from Japan and Laura Crocker. Satsuki is a veritable yo-yo - she can run really hot or really cold.
Crocker is one of the great personalities in the women's game - BUT SHE'S NOT A SHARP-SHOOTER; more likely a 72 to 79% player who will now rely on Kendra Lilly to be her Kim Kelly.

I think Jones, even the 43+ erratic Jones who swings in the 70 to 85% area should easily subdue Crocker - more trouble awaits if Satsuki advances and gives JJ her A or A+ game.

Jones prolly disturbed cuz her opponent gets the extra game and comes in off a win in the tie-break. Jones, however should be really well-rested.

Tonite - Team Cyborg of Sweden curled without their skip and still won handily w/ a 3 man group skipped by Sara McManus. Anyone know what happened to Anna?

Jennifer "JJ" Jones continues to finesse her road to financial success on the Grand Slam tour - controlling the feisty Satsuki Fujisawa of Japan 4-2 (very low score for a Jones game) to advance to the semi-final.

In that game I believe she'll meet the ebullient but sporadic Kerri Einarson. Einarson was up 3 coming home and almost let her quarter get away - giving up the tying 3 in the 9th before recovering and winning in the extra.

Favorites Hasselborg & Princess Eve were both toppled in the other side quarters.

Jones has to get by Einarson - who may be curling with her old team for the last (or second last) tournament in their careers.

Jones has evolved to being the lowest percentage curler on her team - game in and game out. That doesn't mean she's the worst curler - SHE'S NOT. . . . . just the days where JJ routinely threw up 85s & 90s appear to be over - - - - she was below 70% vs. the Japanese today. That said, she's still the go-to shot-maker if you have to have a big shot completed. . . . you call Jones!

Dawn is still the best overall percentage curler on the team - Lawes is 2nd, I suspect Officer and Jones take turns being the low player - with Jill having slightly more higher percentage games than Jones this year!

I’ve been looking for, and cannot find, a list of the prize payouts for the Players Championship. I know the general purse is $150K per gender, but I’m more interested in the amounts each team gets for their placement: i.e. 1st place cash, 2nd place, and so on.

Total is 100k as per WCT but you're right there's no breakdown on either the Slam site, WCT or curlingzone sites.

This is the elite 10 with the same purse based on 6 qualifiers.

Yeah, I know WCT says $100K, but another source I did find said $300K total men’s and women’s that I assume is split evenly between the two.
