As we are all pleasantly distracted by a wonderful Men's and Women's Nationals, the Youth Olympics have started.

Our team is Luc Violette, Cora Farrell, Ben Richardson and Cait Flannery. All very young and all very good.

We started off with a win over Turkey. Swiss are our next victims.

Great opportunity for these young curlers. Not only the travel and the growth, but the exposure to international curling. I think it certainly helped Dropkin, Howell and the Tiny Terrorists.

Team USA picked up their 2nd win with a victory over Team Switzerland this morning. Scored a deuce with hammer in the 8th end to win 6-5. Next opponent Team Italy.

Good news from Lillehammer

After 6 of 7 round robin games, Team USA sits in a 3-way tie with Russia and Switzerland in Pool A, and have secured a berth in the YOG quarterfinals.

Luc, Cora, Ben and Cait have best DSC in their pool, so have a chance to secure #1 seed for playoffs with a win over Japan in their 7th and final R/R game.

Nice extra end win. Went down 2-0 and fought back to a 4-4 tie and the hammer in the 9th.

Russia next in the semi's, a couple hours away.

Nice job.

Hopefully this success (and other junior success) can justify more support for Junior curling.

Believe it or not, despite my disdain for the HPP, I hope the USA junior men and women teams do awesome at Worlds (like this team is now doing at the YOG). Having disdain for the HPP does not mean I want the teams to lose.

The long-term success at a high level will start with supporting as many Juniors as possible, and not just a select person or persons.
