From the department of crazy ideas department - Mid-game pebble

Slide path. Pebble break down. Flat spots. 10 end games. Modern brushes. Stronger players. Crowds. TV lights. Fudge.

So what would be disastrously wrong with a pebble and nip in the mid-game break? (Since this is a crazy idea "tradition" will not be accepted as an answer.) Obviously pro tv games only.

Sure it change the ice. But the ice changes anyway.

Haven't the slams gone to 5 min team practice to try and save pebble? Time the WCF and CCA adopted this too or go to 8 end games ( oh what heresy)

I have thought a mid game pebble would be the answer for years.

If there were a mid-game pebble, curlers would want to practice before resuming the game. They don't want to have to figure out the ice as the game develops... which used to be part of the game.

There shouldn't be any practice anyways. Other than a few slides.

Agree, but if they were not allowed to practice they would blank the first 4 ends, to get use to the ice, instead of just 1 for whatever reason they do that.

Good point Netz. Maybe a better solution is to have "imperfect" ice to make the skips work a little harder.

Pebbling from the hogline to the hack would not change the ice that much depending on the size and amount of pebble put down.

Back in the old days, we always would add a little weight to draw shots when the ice slowed down.

As a competitive junior curler, I believe that putting at the 5th end break wouldn't make much of a difference. The ice doesn't slow down that significantly near the end of a 10 end game. Also, a large crew would be required because of the possibility of multiple sheets having 5th end breaks at the same time.

Couple of notes.

I thought that it was normal in the 10 end events with practice that they would pebble the centerline from hack to tee line already to fix the glide path. This still true?

Also, for whoever said things about practice, with the very complex DSC, the extra practice wear and tear is mandatory to some extent
