Humpty's Cup - Last Biggy
Season round up with the Humpty's this weekend.
Lots of top teams here (most o them actually) with Richard Hart listed as 3rd for Old Glenny Howard.
Last chance for many to play with their old teams & skips. Jill Officer's last bonspiel of note.
Not too much in the way of expectations. Rachel Homan may have a nice finish - just outta spite. She got pounded worse than anything in the last 10 years last weekend.
Last go-round for Val Sweeting's Weepy Girls - sad to see that group break but it wasn't working (for whatever reasons)
Don't expect much from JJ Jones. She made the final last week on flukes, other team's nerves and Kaitlyn playing her way thru. Jones is missing more than ever before and its the last spiel - she'll bow out gracefully, perhaps prior to the playoffs.
BIGGEST NAME TO WATCH - KAITLYN JONES
When I first heard this I thought Jones & Lawes were getting married, what kinda joke - but now she's a junior champion out of the Maritime - and she means business.
Tonite - features a wonderful matchups of gladiators in Anna Hasselborg vs Jamie Sinclair. These two should be fixtures on the curling scene next 5 to 10 years. Hasselborg brings in the most athletic and well-trained group, big use of analytics (thanks Gerry Guertz) and an amazing skip in Cyborg Anna.
Sinclair's brutal dismantling of JJ Jones last weekend served notice that she's a team to watch. She'll be repping USA for years to come and if they get solid sponsorships they'll be tour regulars. Alex Carlson, the baby-faced assassin who plays 3rd might be the next big non-skip in curling.
Look for Kaitlyn Jones to have a decent coming out party w/ Hasselorg and Sinclair continuing recent successes. Perhaps Weepy Val factors into the equation, who knows?

I predict Team Homan has recovered from their post Olympic let down and wins. The team was on a 4 year plan to win the Olympic trials with the last 2 years all in. They took a well deserved break after the Olympics including last week at the National. Watch out this next week after they've thrown a few rocks.

they never ever televise until thursday.
I do know that TSN is showing the mixed doubles, not sure of the times. A last minute add in for TSN. You will have to check their site.

Coming out party for USA's Jamie Sincair continues.
1. 2 weeks ago she bullies Jennifer Jones all over the ice and delivers her scalp to win her first slam.
2. Last night she delivers the scalp of the Olympic champion and world runner-up Anna Hasselborg; albeit a come-from-behind, non-bullying, steal on last brick effort.
I do think that jettisons Sinclair into the elite group of women's teams - and they can only get better, can' they?
Sure, Jones may be too pooped to pop (that didn't stop her from winning all her games prior to Sinclair and having a 27 game winning streak - and Hasselborg may be beginning to shut things down for the season.
Lets see how Sinclair fares against lesser teams this week - like Sweeting, Homan, Einarson, Tirinzoni, etc. before we elevate her to MONSTER STATUS.
Actually, this great season finish by Sinclair gives reason to Rachel Homan to get off the mat and show the curling world that old monsters never die - they just take time off.

Paetz falls down; should Einarson be concerned about Val?
The Swiss Super-Girl, Alina Paetz, aka Ladyhawke allowed late end rallies and a final end steal in succumbing to Alberta's Delia Dejong. Unexpected - but now you never know with Paetz - who 3 or 4 years ago looked like the biggest new monster on the curling horizon; particularly when she dismantled Jennifer Jones not once, not twice but three times at the worlds!
Also, Kerri Einarson thrashed whats left of the Val Sweeting Valberta Express - over in basically 6 ends. Einarson is seen as a quiet powerhouse but Val curled an abysmal 53% - the concern of course is that Val is coming to Manitoba next year to provide 3rd services for Einarson , replacing Selena Kaatz. Should Einarson be concerned that Sweeting may have totally lost it?

Did Jamie Sinclair play with Rachel Homan in juniors? This could be a fun reunion match for both teams - nice way to end the season if so.

Rachel Homan began her rebuild tonite - although she was taken down by Jamey Sinclair - she looks to have played a solid game - Sinclair & Ally Carlson needing very high percentages to subdue the means.
Extra end to boot.
Not a bad outcome for Homan - given the slaughterhouse she went thru 2 weeks back.
Homan will be back - she's a sharp-shooter. Maybe not in the same way she was - but very formidable.
More worried about Val Sweeting after JJ Jones dismantled her tonite - - - - and JJ rarely dismantles top teams like that . . . .

Pretty decent outcome. For those who didnt see Sinclair needed to just about cover the pin to get shot in the extra. Homan made them work for it and Homan made a great corner run double and didnt get 2 by a couple of inches. Great game by homan and sinclair

Thanks for the report - sounds like both Rachel & Sinclair got what they wanted out of the game . . . . too bad a sensational match like that is NOT televised . . .
Jamie gets a notch of Rachel's scalp on her belt - even though Rachel forced her to the hilt.
Rachel shows that's she's partially on the road back - taking on the biggest current monster in the women's game in Sinclair and pushing her to a fabulous shot in an extra.

Sinclair played on the same bantam team that was skipped by Homan for a year. There is 3 yr age difference I believe so they maybe only met a few times as juniors.

Lady Homan and her mean girls starting to re-charge the batteries - making quick disposal of former world champion Bini Feltscher - the Homan4 all curled in the 90s or better. Rachel starting to feel it - - - -
Tonite will be the acid test as Rachel has to stand up to Olympic champion and world runner-up Anna Hasselborg. We know how strong and consistent Anna is - many questions to be answered by Rachel.
2-2 looks fairly solid to advance to the quarters - so Rachel not in huge peril - but I'm sure she'd like to spring off her domination of Feltscher and put down Hasselborg.

It was clear as day that Sharp-Shooter Rachel could not stand up to the enduring consistency of Anna Hasselborg.
Today - Val Sweeting keeps her playoff hopes alive with a dramatic last rock steal vs. Tirinzoni; Val is very likeable and that team is such a group of jokers - but very weepy as they wind it down.
Jennifer jones and Kaitlyn survive a scare vs. Junior Kaitlyn Jones. JJ has to strike the juniors for 3 in 7 and steal in 8 to advance.
No TV of current draw 12 featuring Einarson vs. JJ Jones. Einarson trying to send strong message to JJ that she's tired of being bullied and not going to take it anymore. So far, so good. Einarson up 3-2, Keri curling 100%, Jones continues to show deterioration at 55%
Feel sorry for Joss Peterman. She's coming over to JJ - when JJ looks to be on a downhill descent. Jen is having trouble hitting the broom - that's a no-no in the upper echelons of pro curling. Could be a frustrating year for Peterman as she'll no doubt be blamed if Jones no longer competitive

Hard to believe Jennifer Jones is world champ. I think most people would be happy to be washed up and still world champ.

Peterman is joining a top 2 team in the world and ML is making comments like this. How can anyone take him seriously!

Team Mcewen lost the game but their body language clearly showed why the are splitting up. After 11 years together you think that maybe a manhug, body slap or some acknowledgement of each other may have been in order.

McEwen plugging into Reidorama Circus ain't gonna be much better - but they still should be curling kings within Manitoba - not so much on national or international stage.
Not much emotion on Team McEwen which accounts for their lack of success on national level - and kicked around the schoolyard by Jeff Stoughton for so long.
Raytch Homan is quietly getting her mojo back - come from behind sneakily on favoured Jamie Sinclair in the quarter-final. Sinclair finally showed chinks in her armour late - and Homan pounced. Still not tossing up crazy numbers but should be enough to slip by Princess Eve who's obviously wounded with that hip injury.
Jones makes another incredible shot to re-set her legacy of incredible shots (this one has to be sent into the Smithsonian for creativity) to slither by a tenacious but obviously under-powered Silvana T. Jones misses her incredible shot - she puts up a 59% game - instead she's 65% and in the semis. Still doesn't have the stability of the Jones of old - where she'd be mostly 79 to 88%, just throwing away the odd extra point, half shot, etc.
Jones should be relatively easy prey for Kerri Einarson - but Einarson can also be a yo-yo skip - but she won't dip as low as JJ does. If Selena and Kerri both show up strong (ie. both 80% or more) Einarson should win the crooked numbers battle.
Einarson vs. Homan final predicted with Homan ending the season on a winning note!

Well old age & craftiness beat youth & inexperience...Glen Howard shows Mouat who is boss.
Good to see Homan come back. Will we see an emotional display after Einarson’s last game or a McEwan like farewell.

No one takes him seriously. He fancies himself a newspaper reporter and is on this site just to promote posts. Don't read anything into what he has to say. We don't.

Great to see Howard in the final. Hope he does well but the Gushue team is shooting well. Also glad to see Homan back as well. A real confidence builder for the team.

What a great year for The Scream Queen, Jennifer Jones. Another FINAL 4 finish, albeit, thru a wounded 2-2 round-robin, then slithering thru a tie-breaker.
Her percentages in the quarter-final and final tell most of the story and are strong indications of where she's going in the future.
Jones put up soggy numbers of 65 & 71 in the quarter and semi-final respectively. Simply isn't good enough. When I was able to view - she was missing like crazy on takeouts she'd normally make with a blindfold. NOT ANYMORE.
fwiw - top percentage curler in the semi vs. Einarson was none other than Jilly Officer, playing her final game as a registered starter on Team JJ - staying around as 5th to protect Jones auto-berth at the STOH.
There is a scenario - albeit dark and unlikely where Jones pulls the pin on playing next season - no longer able to put up her typical 80 to 90% games - back-up plan being Kaitlyn elevated to skip, Peterman to 3rd, Jilly returning to anchor the front end with Dawn. Jones taking a role on the bench as 5th player and coach. SORRY WENDY!!!
Now the chances of the final scenario happening are about as likely as Joanie, Harris & K-Mart dropping their phony, queer smiles during opening credits on Sportsnet.
