Why does the site show Lawes playing. I thought Birchard had taken over for this event??

Does anyone remember what color the ice was ?

Every square inch of ice plastered with commercials - every inch of the sweaters too..

I just hooked up an old 55 inch samsung to an antenna - get cbc , ctv ad a couple of others for free - tempting ..

Lawes was back in the lineup for Team Jones for the second game after Shannon. Birchard stepped in during their first game Wednesday. With Lawes leaving for the Winter Olympics to compete in mixed doubles, Birchard will sub in at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Good solution by JJ - give Birchard a bit of experience getting used to the frantic ice calls, committee shot-calling and the newest JJ line we'll be hearing lots of at the Scotties - "Sorry, Shannon"

also giving Lawes a bit of tune-up time at a major event where she's pitted up against the best women curlers!

eppings last in 8

about as good as possible

with that weight had he ticked front gunner a little less and stayed with shooter

gunner shot rock would have picked out epping counter at 6 oclock - barely missed it

Amusing

NOT one member of Team Cotter of BC is there. Or should I say resident of BC! Surely no points earned for any of them.

I think if you can't field a team of 3 of 4 team members, let another team have a chance. You're ineligible for any points anyway and you're taking a spot from a deserving team. Selfish johnny mo as per usual. LOOK AT ME!

im guessing they asked 2 -3 teams that couldnt make it -
then they asked cotter and he said yes and got some spares

the first teams didnt consider getting a couple of spares

prob easy to look up who was ahead of cotter in points and would get first invites

good game - Dunstone curled very well - typical Manitoban

koe has to beat gushue and then the loser of botcher and epping in the Canadian division of C

What a disappointing game to watch. Bad strategy and bad misses. Last team NOT to miss wins. Only bright spot was Cameron. Great shooter and not afraid to let her skipper know the better call. ML, I see her with Lawes on the next Olympic run? You?

While you are waiting for ML to respond, let me jump in here and say i don't really see Cameron curling with Lawes next year.

First of all, as I have said on previous occasions, I think it would be in Lawes' best interest
to return to Alberta at the end of this season because the potential for her to assemble and develop a world class team there would be significantly easier than in Manitoba.

Assuming Cameron is prepared to move to Alberta ( is she ?) I can see her being a strong candidate for the team. But not as a 3rd. Perhaps as a 2nd. But even then, I believe there are several others in Alberta who have at least her skillset.

While Lawes would never admit it, I'm sure she's very, very disappointed that since joining this world class, top drawer team in 2010, after 8 years, she has won Scotties gold exactly once, and has never won World gold. True, she won Olympic gold in 2014 but overall , that's not a lot of championships. Certainly not what she or anybody else anticipated back in 2010.

TO ACHIEVE GREATNESS YOU NEED A SOLID PLAN AND NOT QUITE ENOUGH TIME.

Lawes future would seem to be solely in the hands of Jen Jones. If Jones has control of Lawes services then she might want to trudge on in 2019, especially if she medals at the STOH next week - - - - even though both JJ & Jill will be mid 40s and Dawn will reach 40.

Should JJ bring her circus act into Penticton featuring Shannon Birchard at 3rd - and manage to escape with GOLD, then and only then would I think JJ continues for at least 2 years, then evaluates her tour/ctrs status - deciding whether to push for the Olympic cycle at age 47/48.

Winning a 5th STOH title - w/ Birchard @ vice would be a major conquest for Jones, even vs. a diluted field.

And it would take Kaitlyn Lawes off the hook, so to speak.

Possible Team Kaitlyn Line-Ups

Kaitlyn as skip, obviously!

3rd - Kate Cameron or Val Sweeting

2nd - Laura Crocker or Kelcey Rocque

Lead - Dawn McEwen or Rachel Brown

I think Kaitlyn would need the better part of a year to get this new team into form. But I do think she'd utilize Katie Cameron far better than JJ utilizes Kaitlyn. Let Cameron does best - HIT - HIT - HIT, leaving simpler shots for Kaitlyn to complete.

Jones invariably plays high degree of difficulty shots from the get-go, leaving herself in deep peril when time to shoot, usually crazy-arsed puzzle shots. With her diminished accuracy JJ's completion rate for such shots is plunging badly.
