Not great news! One of my biggest influences in curling - and I was lucky enough to get to know Big Jimbo after he won the 2 world championships with Duguid.

Duguid couldn't have said it better. He was calm and did whatever his skip asked of him. Not quite the Brent Laing school of secondary interference!

Forgot about Jim's spinners on hits. That was his style - didn't have the classic Rod Hunter or Old Glenny Howard delivery so he basically finished his slide well before the hog-line - - - kinda like the old-timers of the 40s and early to mid 50s guys did.

Couple small details missing in the article - yes, the Duguid team's main nemesis was Pee W. Picketing of Sask'n, Duguid needed to eliminate Pee's last stone in the 12th end in 1970 - probably threw the worst rock of his life as he came out of the hack shaking like a leaf. P & Woody had to jump on it quick - and feared Duguie might have gassed it - P even went down in a heap about half way down the ice - and Woody banged his broom with great ferocity - Duguie got about 1/8th of P's stone and won the Brier.

In '71 - storms over Quebec City. It was not only Pickering but also the great northern Ontario skip Bill Tetley who tormented Duguid's team. Tetley was licking his chops after handing Duguid an unexpected loss in the round-robin so props to Tetley, too!

As far as sweeping was concerned. Jim stood about 6'2" and weighed in approx. 230/235, bit bigger than Nolan Thiessen . . . . he was a monster to be sure. Woody was about same height, little lighter, maybe 215/220.

You look at today's brute force whipper-snappers like RJ Harnden or even Ryan and Jim coulda snapped their arms or necks with a simple hand-shake.

RIP Big Jimmy - you'll be missed!
