Winner's become 'A' carded athletes for two years by Sport Canada, get access to National coaches, mental training, etc. Works out to about 200k over two years including sponsorship cresting.

For points it will be close to 84, 65, 50, 35 for first through fourth. The rest like Morris will collect in the neighborhood of 3 points per round robin win. Gerry would know better than me.

Just trying to see implications to trials qualification

If Koe wins
Gushue gets in as combined 2015-2017 highest points
then its
Jacobs
Epping
McEwan based on new total
Laycock

If Gushue wins and medals
Jacobs gets in as combined 2015-2017 highest points
then its
Epping
McEwen
LayCock

Basically no Difference

Hey ronbro...there is another thread where we talk about this but you don't have it quite right. They fill the duplicates in the correct order from this year's points leaders. Slot 2 (last year Brier winner) is Koe and that gets replaced by Gushue before we get to slot 5 which is the two year points leader. Again, check the ROTR thread for this. One for women's one for men's. I had it wrong at first as well but if you re-read the curling Canada website it becomes more clear. Tid very likely McEwen will get the two year slot but some events still left.

Realistically Morris is going to need to win the Player's to catch Laycock or Epping. A top four in the Brier would have helped his cause. A win would have changed everything.

The winning team also receives a base payout of $71,000 in prize money, cresting and funding. A minimum of $30,000 will also be awarded for additional cresting and promotional appearances and Sport Canada will award funding of $144,000 over two years.

The Brier silver medallists earn $45,000 in prize money. McEwen gets $35,000 and Jacobs receives $25,000.

A berth in the Dec. 2-10 Olympic Trials in Ottawa will also be awarded if the Brier winner reaches the podium at the world championship. Koe has already locked up a spot at the Trials

from the Winnipeg Sun.

Many good teams there. Not so sure where you get your info about hasbeens and newbeens. Look them up . Much higher ranked than the usual spiel in MB!!!! Where is the loophole for going to a spiel? They should be so lucky to travel 1000's of miles and spending 1000's of dollars for a chance at points. That or an exhibition at the elite 10 that gets them nothing. Nothing. One more time, NOTHING. They have enough money and sponsorship so why not go for the points? The big goal is the the Olympic trials. This is their best chance to get there. What would you suggest instead?

What loophole? Going to a WCT event abroad is not a loophole

McEwen is in line for the two year exemption anyways since Gushue is a lock to lead the OOM points this year which will get him Koe's second slot. Carruthers gets the third slot. Gushue's Brier slot will go second place in OOM this year. Then comes the two year slot.
