World Mixed Doubles

World Mixed Doubles has started. It's an Olympic Medal sport, so I'm trying and trying to care. A bit easier because we sent the very likable bro/sis pairing of Hammy and Lil Miss Hammy. We are kind of on a roll with our top curlers being very good people.

I'm not sure who sets the pools, but they may have a Scottish father and a Swiss mother. Dang, we ended up in the Pool Of Death again. It's possible that I'm such a "homer" I see things through a Red White And Blue haze, but it seems that we consistently end up in the deepest pool. Now we're stuck with Canada (who also has an extremely likable pairing with Carrothers and the that sweeping machine that throws second for Homan) and a pretty good Czech team and few others with some skills.

I thought we'd get an easy pool because we've done well at Worlds the last couple of years. Joe Cool Polo and Tabs did very well. So did Team Cute As Kittens (Younger Dropkin and one of the Tiny Terrorists...Sarah). Oh well. If memory serves, they advance a ton of teams to the playoffs. I still love our chances.

Speaking of Joe Cool: I heard that he and his wife are expecting their first child. I've also heard that things might not be going all that well with the pregnancy. Whether things are going badly or going great, I think we should all say a little prayer for Cool and his kid.

Ben Tucker (been known to say a prayer from time to time)

US should advance. unless they play poorly the only real challenges should be canada and the czech republic and maybe turkey. england have started strong though so they could be a tough battle

Hammy and Lil Miss Hammy rock the round robin undefeated. Then Team USA dropped a heartbreaker in the first round of the playoffs. Bummer. Now they are blasting their way through the Consolation Event.

Since when does any World event have a Consolation? Doesn't matter. GO USA!

Ben Tucker

PS Patti Lank's Senior Women made the playoffs at Worlds, but lost the bronze medal game. Senior Men did OK, but just OK and missed the playoffs.

You know the answer to that - they have it when there are Olympic qualifying points on the line.

Probably means it'll go away in the next cycle or as soon as they change Mixed Doubles from an 'open qualification' event...

Team Hammy has helped to secure a spot for USA in the 2018 Olympics. Well done!
