Truth or speculation?

Has anyone else heard anything about the changes in this article, or is this just speculation?

Very interesting to see no more relegation for some events.

I was told it was discussed at last year's mixed and seniors.

No official decisions have been made, but it's pretty much a done deal, unless some of the member associations start to squawk. Which isn't likely.

Personally, I think I've gotten to the point where the territories should be merged into one association, with one representative at a given event (they're total population and number of curling clubs is less than PEI). Merge them so that they only have 1 rep, and then figure out what sort of system you want to have... i.e., pools, round robin, etc.

I like a true round robin versus a pool system, especially for those two events, since you will have a large degree of variance from the teams from year to year. It will be really tough to seed teams in a pooled event to keep the pools balanced. And there is a comradery that is built by playing all the teams too... it makes it feel like you're playing all points of the country.

As for the switch to 8 ends... it makes sense for the seniors, as there is a world event, and it's best to follow that format. For the mixed... I'd like to see that stay as a 10 end event. Mixed is still a bit of a feeder for second tier curlers, and I'd like to keep it as close as to the main events (men's/women's) as possible. But then again, the Europeans have gone to an 8-end format for their mixed as well so... maybe it's best to keep it in sync (especially if, at some point, there is a world mixed event).
