Look for an abundance of shot-stacking (up to 6 rocks glued to each other near the pin) - with only a couple time-clearing ends which result in blanks.

Niklas must definitely refuse to be abused by Gushue and his earned reputation (this year) of being too good to stand up to.

There's no question in my mind Oskar is as good as Mark Nichols (perhaps better on occasion) and Nik comes with a fully-earned reputation as one of curling's true superstars.

I think the front ends is where the game might be one tonite - no question Brett Gallant is now the elite 2nd in mens curling - and Walker is super-solid at lead.

Goo will desperately attempt to defend the hammer he earned over the week. . . . and Edin will furiously plot to strip the Men of the Rock from this advantage.

Technically speaking this could be one of the greatest curling games ever played!

there's no question. gallant and walker are stronger than sundgren and wrana. agree with you that they need to try and keep up with walker and gallant otherwise eriksson and edin will be tasked with constantly having to make hero shots to save ends.

i dont rate oskar as strong as nichols. he is way more up and down than mark is even within games and far to often oskar's draw weight just isnt there. he's a great hitter but an average to bad drawer and thats where mark has a big edge.

one thing cheryl or russ(cant remember who) said last night was that niklas was waiting to long to bail out. he'd get in trouble and wait until oskar's last or his first to try and get out of it.

as far as today goes ..

think switzerland suffer a let down and the US will claim bronze

canada and sweden should be close at first but brad'll control the scoreboard as he does so well against edin and get it in the end.

no doubt todays gold medal game is up for grabs

Gushue and Edin will play conservative for the first couple of ends until the gloves are off and guards go up and we shall see , HE WHO MAKES THE LEAST MISTAKES or CAPITALIZES on mistakes usually wins game in the end, also who has the hammer in the even ends late in the game, hope there are no blow out ends, a tightly fought game maybe with a extra end to heighten the suspense would be nice as long as CANADA WINS

Not sure why you think Gushue would come out conservative? Has been aggressive in every first end all week, especially with hammer. 10 ends favors the better team so if Gushue believes his team is best he will put a corner right away.

What in the stupid world was Shuster thinking? Oops!!!! An easy shot for 4 for the Swiss Knife = pretty much game over for a lack of common sense thinking.

Was the slight bump / borderline split for 3 there for Brad? It look liked you just needed to nudge the yellow a couple of inches? Nothing wrong with the draw for 2 but this would of gave a bit more breathing room going into the 10th end.

That would have been an early in the game shot, or a have to make last shot for 3. 2 up going to 10 is ALWAYS good.

As expected far too much talent by the great Gushue team. Great fight by Edin, few could have even played Gushue that close today. The 1st of what will no doubt be atleast 3 world titles, along with likely another Olympic Gold next year.

Great and sometimes fabulous curling by the men of the rock . . . one for the ages . . . . Edin refused to go away and die . . .

Gushue now joins a very elite club of Canadian mens teams who've won the so-called TRIPLE CROWN OF CURLING

ie. Brier - Worlds - Olympics

Funny little world though - he won his Olympic title well before winning Brier & Worlds.

Who are the others?

Kevin Martin? Ferbey, Stoughton, Burtnyk, Koe never got to the Olympics!

Russ and Johnny MO say hi....but as usual....your triple crown makes no sense since a world's is dependent on a Brier. The one tsn mentioned makes sense since they are three independent championships and they can be won by a member of any nation or sex. Olympics/world's/junior world's

Y'know, it would be easy to write a bunch of typical, Manitoba Legend passive/aggressive drivel.

Instead, its simply best to say this: Congratulations to Team Canada on your victory and for being great representatives of our country. And also to all the other teams who wore their countries colors this past week.

You all did yourselves proud. For whats truly important is not who won. But how you all strived to be the best of yourselves.

That, Ladies and Gentlemen, is what Sport is truly about.

Although I have to admit it would be awesome to be partying in St Johns tonight!

Yes, it was very blatant - and could have possibly been the difference between Canada scoring 2 or only 1, as they did.
What in hell is wrong with these guys? They've curled thousands of games, yet they make bonehead 'mistakes' like this? Sorry, but I can't buy it.
Sure, the excitement and adrenalin of the moment, etc. - but no, that is not a legitimate excuse for doing something which they've known since they began curling is not permitted within the rules of the game.

Even worse is that no-one is calling them on it. Yes, yes, it's a 'gentleman's game' - but if someone on the opposing team blatantly breaks an obvious and long established rule, and stands to benefit from it, there is no problem with calling the person on it. Jeez, have some balls...

For 'southercurler': Yes, I'm upset about Erickson's sweeping above the t-line, as it's a blatant disregard for a standard rule of the game. But I'm more upset about George doing the same thing because it is the second time in as many World Championships that the same American team was involved in a controversy where they were the beneficiaries of their questionable actions.

I don't think enough attention is being paid to this performance from a historical perspective. Both how the men played and also the men and women as a single country performance.

A combined 26-0. That's truly amazing.

Every member of the Gushue team curled between 90% and 92%. Also amazing. They were behind at all in only 3 of the 13 games. After one end against China, after six ends against Switzerland and after seven ends against Sweden. They were never behind by more than two points in any game and the latest in a game that they were behind by two points is the fourth end. They were never behind in either playoff game.

They gave up only two steals. (both single points) in the round-robin and one in the playoffs.

It's interesting that Scotland tied for 2nd in team percentage with Sweden at 86%, while the Americans were down in 7th at 82%. (behind China and Norway) That might have a lot to do with style of play, but in a small sample like 11 games there's also a fair amount of luck involved.

A team going through an even like this undefeated is quite rare, and what's even rarer is the level of domination Canada showed. I don't think a team has been this dominant at a worlds since the 60s or 70s when the European countries were just beginning curling and the only competition was Scotland and sometimes the US.

was a weird game. the first half was pretty good. both teams made great shots. but the back 5 were pretty mundane. every end followed the same pattern. sundgren and wrana, as predicted couldnt keep up with walker and gallant so every end involved oskar and edin having to bail and try and get out of trouble as opposed to actually being able to play set up shots. and then the end would wrap up with a blank. it was rinse and repeat 3 3nds in a row until the 9th when oskar and niklas just couldnt get out of it.

The World Championships started out as Canada vs Scotland, then the US joined, then it went to six teams, and then it was eight teams for a number of years. The first year of 10+ teams was in 1973 when Canada started a 7 year streak of not winning. (The LaBonte curse)

Since 1973 there have been 45 World Championships. The following teams have gone undefeated in the round robin.

1973 - Harvey Mazinke (Canada) (10-1) lost in final to Sweden
1974 - Peter Attinger (Switzerland) (9-1) lost in semi-final to USA
1980 - Rick Folk (Canada) (10-0) won championship
1986 - David Smith (Scotland) (10-1) lost in the final to Canada
1988 - Pat Ryan (Canada) (10-1) lost in the final to Norway
1991 - Kevin Martin (Canada) (10-1) lost in the final to Scotland
1995 - Kerry Burtnyk (Canada) (11-0) won championship
2004 - Mark Dacey (Canada) (9-1) lost in semi-final to Germany
2017 - Brad Gushue (Canada) (13-0) won championships

The field was expanded to 12 teams in 2006 which obviously made it more difficult to go undefeated. A number of teams have lost only one game on their way to the title, but Gushue is the first to go undefeated.

So as far as men and women (since 1973) only four teams have won without losing a game. Rick Folk (1980), Kerry Burtnyk (1995), Brad Gushue (2017) and Rachel Holman (2017)

It has truly been a remarkable year for Canadian curling.

So the playoffs went just like I thought combining ranking, yearly performance and HTH, predicted every game right, congrats to Canada, but misty1 is so close minded to not even consider the likelihood of it happening when all the evidence is right there.

Not much rest for Gushue and De Cruz, they are both playing tomorrow.
