I follow Andrea Schopp on Facebook, for about the last 2 years she has been chronicling her struggles with the German Curling Federation. It seems they refuse to let her team play in any playdowns for the women, won't fund her mixed doubles team and won't support her senior women's team.

This seems contrary to the world curling federation wanting to grown the game and rather petty of the Germans which could end up shooting themselves in the foot if they only promote one team.

Does anyone have an idea why the Gernam Curling Federation seems to have such a hate on Andrea?

Been following the German curling saga, too. Besides that federation thinking coaches and others on the warm side can pick champions better than on-ice results (yep, "eugenics" anyone?) when Germany didn't do well at the 2014 Olympics their national Olympic committee pulled all funds from curling. So, there is ever less money for any German international level curlers.

The German team just qualified for the world mixed playoffs in Kazan, Russia this week with a team without Andrea being allowed to playdown to go, IIRC. 5 pools in that Worlds. Germany and Turkey qualified in their pool. The USA is doing well in a pool with Canada and Korea and tomorrow's Can-Kor game will likely sort put that pool's qualfications. Team USA is skipped by Fred Maxie, a long time - and very tough - competitor at his first worlds.

I predict it wll take 1-2+more Olympic cycles for the US and German national curling federations to realize depth of field and not born/bred/selected/groomed/favored will produce medals consistently.

And Go Andrea!! who stands for on-ice results.

I think that a significant factor in this situation is the unfortunate fact that style sells more than does substance in this materialistic world which values the superficial over all else.

Put succinctly, Andrea is simply not very marketable. And, to the German Curling Federation, marketability is more important than curling ability or on-ice results. Style above substance.
Add that Andrea is also outspoken in that she's not afraid to express her honest thoughts... and all of this leads to a conflict between both parties.

Of course, it shouldn't be so, and they would never admit it, but it certainly seems that this is what's happening.

Seems to me the complaint is the fact that Germans are picking their Women's team now rather than allowing them to at least playoff for a right to rep .......( note: the Men played off )

Andrea and a couple of other womens teams have medalled
at World Championships for Germany more..than the entire..USA..
so her record since she was 15 ( 1980) stands for itself.

She might have to stick to seniors play ( 51)...
where she won World.silver last year.

If it hadnt been for her and Kapp..
Germany wouldnt even be on the curling map..
The German Curling Fed...arent looking to smarten their approach any time soon...

Team Dreindl arent exactly "knockouts"..in the
German Women's Teams.. but are very Young and do have World Champion Stella Hess ( Andrea's creation)...

But that wasnt the point...
the point was Team Schoepp feel they should have a chance to play in German Women's playoffs... hard to believe that sexism/ageism trumped a fair chance for Many German Teams not just Andrea's.
