Prestige - 28 Teams

Qualifiers - Rocque (11), Carey (14),Einarson (16),Lawton (18), Sinclair (19), Englot (29), Scott (33),Bernard (retired)

CRTS = strength * size * money

To win in Vernon you have to win more games against a bit of a weaker field to win a little less money.

To win in Stockholm you have to win fewer games against a bit of a better field to win a little more money.

The result happened to even out over a couple of events in September/October.

The key question is not: over two different events might it sometimes look like it should have been harder to win one over the other using a gut feel analysis?

The key question is: will the CRTS result in the deserving teams getting to GSOC events and the deserving Canadian teams to the Olympic trials?

I don't see a grave injustice impacting any upcoming GSOC event or the Canadian Olympic playdown process.

I think it's strength, SIZE, money. Lawton had to win 8 games, Homan 7, so pretty much a wash. Seven out of top ten teams in the world in Stockholm, zero at Prestige. So not close in strength. There are very few new systems that nail it perfectly on the first try. The results of this new system seem to follow that trend. Or at least warrant monitoring.

I think the prize money could be factored in better by using the dollars per number of playoff teams instead of dollars per number of teams in the event. Once you're playing a game to win $1000 (or more) does it matter if the event started with 12 or 30 teams? Same dollar amount on the line.

Here is a link to an interview Gerry did with Brendan Bottcher. This gives some of the reasoning behind the new points system:

Thanks. It appears they have accomplished the objective of leveling the points out, so that teams can move up the ranking. But one of the first things Brendan mentioned was SFM. The new ranking clearly does not give enough emphasis to the SFM. It appears the formulae need tweaking, so you do not have the anomalies that Runback mentioned.

It was also pointed out to me that the womens team that is currently ranked #3 in the annual CTRS ranking has not played an OOM top 20 team, yet that team has vaulted many ranked teams who have been winning.
