There's been a lot of discussions about Curling Clubs struggling to keep the doors open and how money could solve these issues. While it can help, clubs need a plan to be able to do more than just use the money as a temporary band-aid.

We need more ideas that clubs can grab hold of and work towards becoming more successful for the long term.

The Royal Canadian Culring Club in Toronto is flourishing thanks to solid management and a willingness to actually try----now there's a concept. Ice that used to sit vacant during the afternoon is now booked as I new league was formed. Great ice, great atmosphere and good management!

The Chaska Curling Center (Chaska MN) has seen a crazy amount of support in its first year open. I think they are getting close to 1000 members after only a few months. Comparing that to the St Paul Curling Club's 1200 members (largest in the US) in 94 years of operation, the growth is pretty impressive. We will see if they can sustain the member population, but so far it is definitely a success story.

Pairing the curling center with a decent restaurant and an event center was a great idea. League nights pack the restaurant and the restaurant drives tons of traffic into the curling center. They have floor to ceiling glass over looking the sheet and overhead cameras with TVs above each sheet showing the far end house. There is a member lounge and servers will serve drinks out in the curling area.

I don't know how much of this translates to existing clubs trying to grow. Chaska is a pretty fresh market for curling and basically any local fun commercial activity, but there may be something to learn.
